Job Description

TheInternational Biochar Initiative(IBI) is a growing non-profit organization seeking support to help IBI achieve our mission through strategic and highly impactful education programs that will inform new audiences, as well as grow the global biochar workforce and industry.


A globally distributed, remote-first, small team, we are a mission-driven, creative and dynamic group of people working in the briskly growing area of climate change solutions. This position will bridge strategy and implementation, developing the strategy and implementation for IBI’s educational activities and products. The Education Manager reports to the IBI Executive Director, coordinates with the Development Manager, Communications Lead, and liaises with IBI Board of Directors.


Job Type: Full-time employee


Location: Remote. Flexible, with preference for candidates in or overlapping some business hours within Latin / North American or African / European time zones. Candidates must be authorized to work in the country in which they live. IBI is not able to provide sponsorship for work permits or visas.


Remuneration: For the US or Europe $75,000 - $90,000 + benefits, including a professional development stipend each year. For other regions, salary will be determined by local rates based on experience and education.


Responsibilities

  • In coordination with the Development Manager, lead outreach to private sector, global organization partnerships to offer training opportunities about decarbonization opportunities with biochar.
  • Develop professional development certification programs for the biochar industry to keep stakeholders up to date on industry best practices, trends and opportunities.
  • Lead in the establishment of biochar education curriculum for universities.
  • Lead in the establishment of training requirements for the biochar industry.
  • Develop and execute relevant, up-to-date biochar education curriculum to facilitate growing the biochar industry. This will include both in-person and on-line educational curriculum and educational products.
  • Regularly assess education program effectiveness, determining what is working, and pivot when work is not achieving established KPIs.
  • Stay updated on the latest training techniques and update training programs to meet training goals.
  • Supervise, manage, and lead training programs in different geographies with multiple partnering organizations.
  • Manage IBI online events including selecting topics and presenters, and optimizing the information from past and future webinars.
  • Collaborate with IBI Executive Director to determine the training budget and organize fundraising activities to meet the needs of the training program.
  • International travel up to 20%.


Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of learning management systems would be useful but not required.
  • Five (5) years of experience working for a training, learning, or development team.
  • Relevant Bachelors degree required, and a Masters degree preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge of and successes with educational design and training techniques for both in-person and on-line events.
  • Familiarity with the biochar industry and the scientific principles of biochar production and use is strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
