Job Description

The Engineering Manager, reports to the Senior Director of SME Engineering. The role entails leading the energy storage engineering team and overseeing various aspects of energy storage development, including engineering support, preliminary engineering, owner's engineering reviews, design standards, and procurement support for stand-alone, co-located, and retrofit storage facilities. The Engineering Manager will manage the energy storage engineering team, collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, third parties, and consultants, and contribute to the design and construction of this company's energy storage portfolio.


Essential Functions:

Lead a team of internal and consulting engineers to advance the companies multi-gigawatt energy storage projects pipeline.

Provide energy storage subject matter expertise to origination, development, project management, construction, commissioning, and operations groups.

Collaborate with the development and procurement teams to determine optimal sizing and optimization strategies for energy storage systems.


Manage pre-construction energy storage reference design information and tools to support early-stage project development. Act as a subject matter expert for project teams during construction, commissioning, and start-up phases.


Compile and maintain energy storage Capital Expenditure (CapEx) data and support Operating Expenditure (OpEx) assumptions.

Provide subject matter expertise for technical and commercial aspects of contract negotiations, including equipment supply, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and energy storage agreements.


Identify, evaluate, and oversee subcontractors and consultants for project services and deliverables.

Qualifications:

Proficiency in managing teams within a project environment and handling multiple projects simultaneously.


Design and engineering expertise related to hybrid and standalone battery storage projects.

Knowledge and experience in supporting project delivery from commissioning to commercial operations.

Understanding of performance and talent management principles and best practices.

Ability to effectively communicate technical information to project stakeholders and senior leadership.


Familiarity with negotiating engineering, procurement, and construction contracts, as well as technical exhibits for energy storage facilities.

Familiarity or experience with energy market applications and telemetry requirements in prominent energy storage markets like CAISO and ERCOT.


Knowledge of project financing and independent engineer requirements.

Familiarity with electrical standards (UL/IEEE), National Electrical Code, NFPA requirements, and U.S. utility interconnection standards.


Bachelor's Degree in Engineering; Master's degree and Professional Engineering Certification preferred.


10 years of Engineering experience, including a minimum of three (3) years of related experience in energy storage.
