The City of Sugar Land is seeking a full-time A/V Systems Technician in the Communications and Community Development Department. Why Should You Join Our Team? We pay our A/V Systems Technician a starting salary of $59,883 - $76,024 depending on your qualifications. Earning potential for this position is $59,883 – $92,206 per year. As a A/V Systems Technician, you will:
- Support the utilization of annual Public, Education & Government (PEG) funding to enhance broadcast equipment and capabilities.
- Support the live broadcast of government meetings and the maintenance of the critical equipment, including audio, video, and network-based units that support public meetings.
- Assist AV needs for end users and departments performing internal and external meeting and events, potentially including suggesting system components and designs, deployment, setup, testing and return.
- Manage and maintain records of equipment loaned to other departments and facilitates their deployment and return.
- Diagnose and repair systems issues rapidly to facilitate the use of installed systems to staff end users for public and internal meetings.
- Interface with A/V contractors, vendors and tech support when needed to upgrade, maintain, or repair systems.
- Assist with repairs and maintenance of other media tools such as firmware updates, functionality testing and cable construction.
- Design, implement, and maintain the City’s audio, visual, automation, and related communications systems for several installations across City facilities.
- Create and maintain an inventory of parts and equipment, current system diagrams and general use workflows.
- Produce coverage of City events for stock footage and use as needed in City videos.
- Establish contacts with regional municipal channel professionals as a resource for best practices.
- Support the creation of relevant video concepts to provide to supervisory staff within both Communications and other departments/areas.
- Ensure that all content meets organizational standards for integrity and production quality.
- Provide occasional backup coverage for City photography.
- Assist with the programming and content management for the City’s 24/7 local origination broadcast channel.
- Create and maintain user manuals and training materials for Communications staff and other system users.
- Assist in the production, capture, and editing of various media products, for promotional, educational, and informational needs as well as assists in live broadcast productions for a variety of purposes, including social media engagement, city events, engagement programs and emergency management.
- Recommend effective strategies and tactics tailored to the needs of the organization.
- Stay abreast of, and comply with, all City and departmental policies and procedures.
- Required to work as an essential employee before, during and after an emergency or disaster, whether natural or acts of war.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Director and/or their designee.

In addition, strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment is critical for success in the role, as are high levels of accuracy, timeliness and dependability. We are looking for someone who can establish and maintain effective working relationships within the organization, work effectively with all levels of employees and management, and assist in providing solutions to challenges that arise.

Education and Experience:
- Municipal experience is preferred.
- Additional relevant work experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above knowledge; skill and education requirements may be substituted in lieu of specific education requirements.
- Three years’ experience of professional experience in video production, broadcasting, audio/visual industries, or related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism, television production, film production, electronic engineering, or related field.
An advanced degree or additional relevant work experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted in lieu of specific education or exempt-level experience requirements.
Training (License and/or Certification):
- Valid Class "C" Texas Driver License
