WHO WE ARE
Pennant Digital is a full-service digital marketing agency, focusing on audience development, content strategy, social media, and analytics. Our clients are some of the world’s most recognizable brands, including Hearst, Car and Driver, SPIN Magazine, Autoweek, Lyft, Bring a Trailer, 9Round, and Road & Track. We are headquartered in New Jersey with a fully remote team spanning Boston, Philadelphia, Oklahoma City, Chicago, Seattle, Milwaukee, and Madison.
THE ROLE
Pennant Digital is seeking an AUTOMOTIVE SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER to work within our autos division, Pennant Motors. This is a full-time position that can be performed on a remote basis, with occasional travel requirements.
The AUTOMOTIVE SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER position will be filled by an experienced and passionate social media professional. They will be expected to work with a wide variety of brands within the automotive industry, from national publications to aftermarket parts and accessories manufacturers and distributors to auction platforms. Prior experience with automotive content is a must, as is a passion for automotive and powersports in general.
The AUTOMOTIVE SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER will be responsible for managing select social media accounts, creating native content, engaging across platforms, tracking and reporting on analytics, and driving strategy. This role calls for experience with and a passion for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and beyond. Social video and photo editing skills are a must, as is prior experience working with large accounts in a fast-paced environment.
The right candidate will be comfortable juggling a prepared content calendar with the real-time demands of social media. Project timelines will range from weeks to "ASAP." Our clients have come to expect expert insights and execution on projects ranging from social media to newsletters to content strategy, and this role will be charged with upholding that reputation.
Apply for this position if you have the relevant experience, work well in a fast-paced environment, and are passionate about all stages of social media management: creating from scratch, monitoring trends, engaging with audiences, collaborating with team members and clients, and seeing projects to successful completion. This is your opportunity to leverage your passion for cars and social media into a hands-on role with some of the most well-known and respected brands in the automotive industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Edit videos as needed. You welcome the challenge of turning a 40-minute, 16:9 video created for YouTube into a compelling TikTok or Instagram reel.
- Collaborate with Pennant's design team to develop cohesive and effective visuals for clients, and team up to create workflows and templates to streamline turnaround for your clients' design needs.
- Clearly communicate trends and analytics to clients. Dive into the numbers that matter, and collaborate with Pennant's design team to create digestible reporting materials.
- Compose compelling and technically accurate content for automotive audiences varying from aftermarket accessories to restoration and motorsports markets on various web and social platforms.
- Collaborate and communicate with colleagues across Pennant's divisions to ensure all social media professionals are following best practices and leveraging trends.
- Facilitate social media collaborations and partnerships that expand the reach of our clients and win new fans.
- Align social media efforts with email, paid, and traditional marketing campaigns. Pennant's scope of work typically stretches beyond a client's social media channels, and you welcome learning about initiatives outside your domain.
- Work transparently on all projects and content calendars. Expertly organize all of your digital assets in an easy-to-access manner.
- Develop and follow brand guidelines, including tone and content strategy, across all platforms. This is an important part of every client relationship, and you are an active participant alongside Pennant leadership and the client.
- Proactively unearth new ways to help our clients thrive on social media, in the autos division and beyond. You are always seeking emerging digital trends and thinking of ways Pennant can take advantage.
- Edit images as needed. You are comfortable cropping images to swipe seamlessly in an Instagram carousel, including panoramic photos that stretch across multiple slides. You have a keen eye for spacing, positioning, and what works on social media.
- Manage multiple social media channels for automotive clients. You are comfortable publishing and actively engaging audiences across TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.
YOU ARE
- Automotive savvy with an understanding of OEM and aftermarket parts and adaptable to learn and write about new product catalogs at the drop of a hat.
- Acutely aware of your capabilities—and your shortcomings. If you aren't qualified or prepared to answer a client's question, you have the humility to seek additional help for the good of the client.
- A team player who puts projects and clients ahead of ego.
- A strong communicator and listener no matter the format: video calls, email, chat, social posts, and most importantly: visual design.
- A strong written communicator. Your social copy and client emails are straightforward, accessible, and rarely contain typos or grammatical mistakes. You don't waste anyone's time with excessive language.
- A willing collaborator who fights to see others succeed. You take pride in sharing your best ideas across Pennant's divisions.
- Proficient in a wide range of digital tools, from creative (Adobe suite) to analytical (Google Analytics, spreadsheets) to communications (Slack) to productivity apps (at least one of Trello, Airtable, Notion).
- Able to decipher client and teammate requests without displaying frustration or condescension. People feel comfortable describing their needs to you.
- Passionate about social media and internet trends: You love producing content for and engaging on legacy social networks including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, and love the opportunity to tackle emerging platforms like TikTok, Twitch, and Discord.
- An effective social media storyteller. You can summarize a news article in three Instagram carousel tiles or less, turn the best part of a 43-minute YouTube video into a compelling 30-second TikTok, and write crisp copy that stops the thumbs of social media scrollers.
- A creative thinker ready to jump into strategy sessions and unafraid to suggest ideas.
- Impactful and purpose-driven on social media. You know what needs to be posted, where, and why. These instincts are forged through hands-on professional experience.
- Active on social media and a rabid consumer of social media news and best practices.
- Independently productive: you thrive in a remote work environment and know the “always on” nature of digital publishing and social media will result in the occasional inconvenient emergency.
- A self-starter and strong finisher: you take pride in developing a plan, executing it, and reporting on results.
- You are "coachable" - When our design team holds workshops or directs you in a 1-1 setting, you walk away with new tools in your toolbox. When your social media colleagues or Pennant leadership lend you tips or advice, you turn it into action.
- Extremely particular and detail-oriented. A single misplaced pixel or apostrophe gives you heartburn.
- A talented social media professional with a deep passion for and understanding of the automotive industry. In a single day you might listen to an episode of Car Talk, watch three 15-minute Donut Media videos, fall down a rabbit hole on r/justrolledintotheshop, watch 15 satisfying powerwash TikToks, and dive deep into the comments of a Bring a Trailer auction.
- Prolific. Firing off 25 social media posts is a down day for you.
- A capable improviser: When news breaks and trends emerge, you will help the team capitalize.
- Able to reliably connect during your work hours via Slack, email, phone, and video. Sometimes all of the above in a single day.
- Eager to learn about new platforms and develop fresh techniques to help clients grow their digital footprint.
- Curious and open-minded. Pennant's client roster stretches well beyond autos - you embrace any exposure to new topics and audiences.
