2. *POSITION SUMMARY
*

The assistant professor in the Sport and Performance Psychology program is responsible for teaching 12 credits per academic term (3 courses), which may include academic, mentorship, or dissertation courses with students pursuing graduate degrees in sport and performance psychology, clinical mental health counseling, or both. The administrative load includes oversight of ongoing curriculum design, development, and assessment, as well as supporting accreditation goals, and committee participation. The candidate for this position must be a Certified Mental Performance Consultant and be listed on the CMPC Registry of Approved Mentors in order to serve in a mentorship role to both master’s and doctoral level students. In addition, the candidate must be able to oversee student research as a dissertation chair.

3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Teach a variety of courses (12 per academic year/3 per academic quarter) within the SPP programs to support an understanding of overall program and training goals
2. Prepare syllabi; update course materials; participate in course and program learning outcome assessments; continuously improve course materials; and develop curriculum.
3. Deliver instruction in an online learning environment using available university learning management and document storage systems.
4. Provide detailed feedback on student assignments in a timely and constructive manner while working to maintain engaging and respectful interactions with students.
5. Provide ethical consulting mentorship to sport and performance psychology students including review of student recordings, case conceptualization reports, self-evaluations, site and site supervisor evaluations, hours logs, and all required documentation related to site development and maintenance.
6. Demonstrate a commitment to building a learning community empowered through multicultural perspectives that lead to cultural competence and emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion for students, staff, and faculty.

Curriculum Design/Development/Revision
1. Oversight of SPP program coursework to ensure consistent implementation of overall program philosophy
2. Maintain a regular course revision schedule to ensure timely updates reflecting current literature and professional aims
3. Create faculty development materials designed to clarify how each course fits within the overall graduate programs.
4. Engage in regular collaboration with teaching faculty to identify individual course strengths and opportunities for improvement

Scholarship, Service and Professional Identity
1. Maintain memberships with professional associations related to professional area of expertise (e.g., AASP, APA Div 47, APA, ACA, etc.)
2. Maintain appropriate mentorship, licensure, and/or supervision credentials, including personal liability insurance and membership on the AASP Registry of Approved Mentors
3. Maintain good standing as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC)
4. Consistently engage in professional writing and publication efforts, including with students when possible.
5. Participate in research with program peers and other university staff when possible.
6. Support SPP program accreditation efforts as needed
7. Engage with students as dissertation chair or committee member when available and when subject matter is consistent with publication interests.
8. Engage with students as faculty CMPC mentor when available and when performance population is consistent with applied experience
9. Assist students to present at state, regional, or national association conferences and/or publish in periodicals or peer-reviewed journals.
10. Participate in university service through committee work, collaborations, and ad hoc projects/initiatives.

4. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Training

  • Doctoral degree demonstrating training in Sport and Performance Psychology, Counseling, or related field (e.g., Physical Education, Kinesiology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Education) from an accredited institution.
  • Evidence of completed research
  • Graduate education in sport and performance psychology is preferred.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Current Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC)
  • Listed on the AASP Registry of Approved Mentors by the date of initial employment
  • Current membership and participation in appropriate state, regional, and national professional organizations appropriate to professional identity
  • Listed on the USOPC Sport Psychology Registry

Experience

  • Prior experience teaching applied sport and performance psychology subject matter.
  • Experience providing mental skills interventions in a variety of settings.
  • Evidence of published or presented scholarly work.
  • Experience with curriculum design, development, and assessment.
  • Evidence of publication, presentation, and continuing education in sport and performance psychology
  • Experience with higher education accreditation standards and compliance analysis is desirable.
  • Experience with self-study reports, accreditation evaluation team membership, and/or accreditation committee membership
  • Prior experience in mentoring individuals toward CMPC certification
  • Evidence of prior service as a dissertation chair or committee member

Related Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Self-sufficiency in the management of personal schedule.
  • Proficient in document/report preparation adhering to institutional editorial guidelines.
  • Intermediate-to-advanced computer skills required (MS Office Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat Professional).
  • Proficiency with video conferencing systems.
  • Working understanding and experience with Canvas (or equivalent) learning management system.
