Visiting Assistant Or Associate Professor, Interior Design

The Program of Interior Design in the School of Design at Virginia Tech invites candidates to apply for a two-year restricted appointment for a Visiting Assistant or Visiting Associate Professor to teach undergraduate courses in the Interior Design program, for the academic
years 2023-2025.
The program is part of the new School of Design, one of the four schools in the newly formed College of Architecture, Arts, and Design (AAD). The School of Design includes undergraduate programs in industrial design, interior design, and landscape architecture. The Interior Design
program currently includes 5 full-time faculty members and approximately 130 undergraduate interior design majors.
Candidates will be responsible to teach studio and lecture courses that contribute to the professionally accredited B.S. in Interior Design degree. Candidates will also be responsible for service to students, the program, and the School of Design. Assignments include working with
full-time faculty on curricula development, working with the program chair on preparing for our upcoming CIDA accreditation visit (fall 2024), as well as fulfilling other instructional, administrative, or service responsibilities in the program and across the School. Applicants are
expected to work collaboratively with the interior design faculty and encouraged to produce appropriate scholarship that contributes to the body of knowledge within the interior design profession and academy.
Successful candidates should demonstrate a teaching style that effectively integrates the learning experience of the design studio with the School of Design’s growing initiatives in areas of wellness. The ideal candidate must have demonstrated excellence in professional achievements such as creative scholarship, design research, outreach and service.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must hold a terminal degree in Interior Design. Individuals with a terminal degree in a related design discipline will be considered if the application demonstrates significant interior design teaching at the college level and/or substantial interior design practice experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional registration with NCIDQ, involvement in a national professional design organization, and/or a PhD are desirable. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated excellence in teaching, professional practice, and/or research.
