Tenure-Track Assistant Professor: Immersive Communication (Ar/Vr/Xr)

The School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of South Carolina invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the Visual Communications sequence with a specialization in Immersive Communication to begin by January 1, 2024 or August 16, 2024.

The candidate will have expertise in immersive visualization and communication, and a promising research or creative agenda constructing immersive environments with user-experience and user-interface design strategy. This includes the ability to merge communication and design practices within interactive and immersive fields, such as virtual reality, mixed reality experiences, location based augmented reality, autonomous or networked virtual environments, digital puppetry, motion capture and photogrammetry.

The School of Journalism and Mass Communications currently enrolls approximately 1,700 undergraduates and 100 graduate students in journalism, advertising, public relations, visual communications and mass communications. The SJMC offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in journalism and mass communication and a Ph.D. in mass communication. The faculty consists of a collegial group of researchers and educators with a wide range of backgrounds and interests. The school houses two professional video studios, a photography studio, and five Mac labs. We extensively use Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop in our classes. As part of our program, every student has a subscription to Adobe Creative Suite.

The College of Information and Communications is home to two nationally recognized schools, the School of Journalism and Mass Communications and the School of Information Science.
