The Assistant Director oversees Study Abroad grants and scholarships and NYS TAP, ensuring award amounts are updated to match HESC and monitoring students TAP SAP. Additionally, this position handles all Return to Title IV (R2T4) for students who withdraw within a semester. It will also manage and process various reports such as students returning from a leave and non-attenders (ESPR). This position is also responsible for coordinating and managing all scholarships that come from outside the university, including finding and advertising additional outside scholarship opportunities for students. Lastly, this role will assist with other areas of the office throughout the year such as need-analysis CSS Profile review, financial aid phone queue, and counseling reports.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required or 3+ years relevant experience.
  • Master’s preferred.
  • Financial aid experience and/or PeopleSoft experience are preferred.

  • Proficient in federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations and processes.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, diverse environment, with keen attention to detail.
  • Dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion for students and staff, fostering a welcoming environment for all backgrounds and identities, and assisting students with financial aid and literacy to overcome barriers to higher education.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and require minimal guidance.
  • Strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills, with a focus on professionalism, tact, discretion, diplomacy, and empathy. Skilled in supporting diverse, underrepresented students and de-escalating tense situations.

Responsibilities
  • Process Study Abroad Awards for SU and visiting students each semester.
  • Manage and process reports for Return to Title IV (R2T4), students returning from a leave, and non-attendance (ESPR).
  • Review annual CSS PROFILE financial aid applications by applying established needs analysis procedures to determine institutional need and use professional judgment as appropriate to adjust institutional eligibility calculations. Perform outreach via phone and/or email to resolve discrepancies and to request additional documents on incomplete files.
  • Assist with the financial aid phone queue and with other counselors¿ general reports throughout the year.
  • Manage various Outside Scholarship programs by coordinating requests from outside agencies, manage the scholarship email box, find outside scholarship opportunities for students and update the website/listserv, and coordinating outside scholarship awards into students¿ current financial aid packages.
