The Center for Global Engagement, (CGE), is hiring an Assistant Director for Global Partnership Development and Impact to join a team of dedicated professionals in our Global Research Office. CGE is comprised of seven units (Asia Engagement, Communications, English Language Institute, Global Research, the International House, International Student and Scholar Services, and Programs Abroad) who are responsible for working throughout campus, across Tennessee and around the world to provide enriching and diverse international experiences for faculty, students and scholars.
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) is Tennessee’s flagship university and premier public research institution. We are an R-1 land-grant university with approximately 30,000 students, 9500 faculty and staff, 11 colleges, and over 300 degree programs. There are more than 1600 international students and scholars on the UTK campus. The University is located on a 580-acre campus in the city of Knoxville in eastern Tennessee, near the Great Smoky Mountains. The University of Tennessee Knoxville campus is seeking candidates who have the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University.
The City of Knoxville is a hidden gem surrounded by eight gorgeous lakes, with a beautiful and walkable downtown, a diverse music scene including internationally recognized festivals, active neighborhoods, unique restaurants, and a robust offering of diverse cultural and outdoor activities. UTK is located within easy driving distance to the Great Smoky Mountains, Atlanta, Nashville, Asheville, Charlotte, Louisville, and Cincinnati. It is only a day’s drive to Memphis, Chicago, and Washington D.C. Knoxville and the surrounding counties have a population of more than 850,000 people.
Position Summary
The Assistant Director (AD) for Global Partnership Development and Impact helps cultivate and manage partnerships that serve the entire University of Tennessee Knoxville (UTK) community. The AD will facilitate the development of agreements between the university and its international partners, as well as contribute to the implementation of global initiatives and projects. The AD is key to shaping and supporting UTK’s global vision, building and supporting global relationships and advancing the UTK’s visibility and reputation on the world stage.

Education and Experience Required: Master’s degree and 1-2 years experience working in higher education, particularly in managing complex international educational and research partnerships. At least 5 years of professional experience coordinating programs, projects, and events. Grant proposal development and understanding of solicitations for external funding. Experience in positions that require a confident, highly engaged self-starter who takes initiative to navigate demanding workload, set and meet milestones and deadlines, build strong professional working relationships to increase effectiveness of collaborative efforts of team environments across multiple units.
Education and Experience Preferred: Juris Doctorate (JD) or LLM or extensive contract experience. Experience in global risk management in higher education, knowledge and experience in research security as it relates to partnership development. Building partnerships with industry partners. Knowledge of MoveOn platform. Grant budget development and maintenance. Global living, work, or study experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Strong cross-cultural competence and ability in international working environments
- Culturally and internationally astute, with excellent, negotiation and relationship building skills
- Excellent organizational, event management and project management skills
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to use MS Office applications proficiently
- Effective problem-solving and data driven decision-making skills
- High level analytical skills, with ability to write clear and concise reports and create procedural documentation
- Ability to work outside of standard work hours during international and domestic travel.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
- Knowledge of and experience in, research security as it relates to partnership development.
- Knowledge of policies, regulations, and best practices related to international partnerships and contractual agreements.
- Knowledge of donor agency (federal, foundation, and industry) grants processes
- Experience coordinating global higher education programs.
- Multilingual, ability to communicate proficiently in English and another language
- Knowledge of the MoveOn software platform
