Purpose
The Assistant Dean for Career Services at the University of Texas School of Law leads the strategic vision and day-to-day operations of the Career Services Office (CSO). This involves comprehensive oversight of the mission of the office, including program and policy development, employer outreach, student counseling, staff supervision, and reporting data to meet accreditation and other institutional needs.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement recruiting and interviewing policies and procedures for employers and students.
  • Oversee compilation and reporting of statistics related to employment outcomes.
  • Oversee the development of resources and programs for student career exploration, professional development, and job interviewing.
  • Participate on the Dean’s leadership team.
  • Provide career counseling to students, recent graduates and alumni.
  • Oversee the mission and direction of the Career Services Office (CSO).
  • Conduct employer outreach and maintain and expand our relationships with employers.
  • Other related responsibilities and functions as assigned.
  • Manage the daily operations of the CSO, including supervision of our counseling and coaching team and administrative staff.
Required Qualifications
JD degree. Eight or more years of legal experience. Experience leading/managing a team of five or more people. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to represent Texas Law effectively in the external legal community. Strong organizational skills and demonstrated attention to detail.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience working in a Career Services setting for two or more years. Experience in the following areas: working in an institution of higher education; managing a staff of ten or more people; overseeing a budget.
Salary
$150,000 + depending on qualifications
A relocation allowance is available for someone moving from outside the Austin area.
Working Conditions
Occasional attendance at events outside of business hours is required. Occasional travel throughout the state and outside of Texas to attend events and professional conferences is expected. Remote work is permitted on a limited basis during the academic year, with more remote work opportunities during the summers and breaks. Will work around standard office conditions, including the repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation, use of manual dexterity, lifting and moving standard office files and supplies.

Retirement Plan Eligibility:
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
