Summary
The Logistics Process Manager is responsible for driving consistency, continuous improvement, quality, and projects amongst all North American distribution centers and the Traffic organization. Manages a team of remote colleagues to facilitate the sharing of best practices and proactively reduce/avoid customer complaints. Partners with Director of Logistics to implement projects, consistent process improvements and audit the success of these changes. Leads cross organizational teams with differing opinions and must be highly skilled at leading authentically, building consensus within the team, and managing expectations for successful implementation of various changes and process improvements.
Can be located near McPherson, KS or Broomfield, CO and can primarily be remote.
Details
Management
  • Responsible for activities related to the development of new processes including researching current and emerging technologies, evaluating process cost, quality and performing process characterization and optimization studies using designed experiments, problem-solving and decision-making tools; ensure logistics processes are efficient.
  • Manage a team that will develop, maintain and lead improvement control processes across the North American distribution network. This includes but is not limited to workshops; Kaizen; Lean activities to organize and manage workplace; lean logistics methodologies for cost reduction, streamlined material flow and continuous improvement. Internally develop Lean Six Sigma culture driven to improve performance, cost, throughput and quality control metrics.
  • Develop, review, and update logistics processes; monitor processes ongoing to ensure consistency and compliance in the DC’s; ensure processes are effective and efficient so tools and machines are available as schedule demands.
  • Lead a cross functional team to evaluate, promote and administer ideas submitted by logistics employees or ideas that impact the Distribution team.
  • Ensure high-value projects are implemented within established KPIs, included but not limited to budget, ROI/ROCE goals, and clearly defined success criteria.
  • Build a high performing, remote team of Process Analysts & Engineers that will proactively identify and address process inconsistencies in conjunction with the DC and Traffic Managers to reduce the number of customer complaints. Team will provide support and expertise in implementing best practices, developing and implementing quality improvement programs, and other quality process improvement and assessment initiatives.
  • Collect and analyze data from across the North American distribution network to proactively identify common areas for improvement. Lead team to develop quality processes and ensure the consistent implementation across all DC’s and/or Traffic group. Audit final improvements for compliance and success.
  • Ensures compliance in Health, Environment & Safety/Quality in all areas of operations; ensure company policies and guidelines, as set forth in the Corporate Human Resources Policy manual are followed; maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Continually and proactively demonstrates strong leadership and managerial skills in recruiting, selecting, training, motivating, reviewing, coaching, developing, and retaining a high-performance team.
  • Develop goals and metrics for direct reports to drive success and meet KPI’s. Provide coaching and mentoring of a remote team. Conduct regular performance reviews. Interview, hire, develop performance management plans, and fire as required.
Quality Improvement
  • Leads and provides support in the design and development of quality improvement metrics for distribution and traffic.
  • Conduct 6S audits with all DC’s; report findings; track requested improvements; communication results. Partner with DC Manager and Quality Manager to reach 6S targets, resulting in improved productivity.
  • Reviews and analyzes quality and measurement processes to determine where technological improvements would benefit operations, cost reduction, or quality.
  • Partner with DC’s, Traffic, Customer Service and sometimes customers to gather information and data to better understand customer complaints related to all facets of the distribution network, including transportation carriers; work with team to identify root cause and develop a corrective action to apply to all DC’s/Traffic. Assist in implementation of corrective actions, Measure improvements. May require travel to customer sites.
  • Applies logistics and quality control techniques including, but not limited to Six Sigma, Lean, TQM and SPC methodologies to address issues such as operational/quality process improvement and facility design or layout.
Inventory Control
  • Lead required cycle count program for all DCs to ensure required counts are performed during each calendar year.
  • Ensure each DC performs all cycle count activities in a consistent and compliant manner.
  • Research cycle count errors and identify process issues; Develop corrective actions and apply to all DC’s in a consistent manner
  • Develop put away, replenishment, and picking standards for all DCs to ensure the cycle count program is consistent across the network with a high degree of accuracy. Audit and measure compliance to these standards and share with DC Manager monthly.
Budgets
  • Assist Director of Logistics during the annual budget process.
  • Act as a liaison between Controlling team and Logistics team to ensure all budget deliverables are completed accurately and on-time.
  • Lead preparation of Capex, projects, travel & expense, and headcount requirements with all Logistics managers (DC, WMS-IT, and Traffic) to ensure a cohesive and efficient budget process.
Special Projects
  • Coordinate and organize project updates with all Managers and Project leaders.
  • Partner with Logistics personnel in developing project definitions to ensure successful implementation of process improvement initiatives; track progress of Logistics’ team projects; communicate and measure results.
  • Manage collection and reporting of all Logistics monthly KPI’s. Lead and coordinate activities to ensure knowledge creation/sharing and integration within distribution and throughout the organization.
  • Participate in developing work programs and project activities such as assessments, position papers, brainstorming, making presentations and special studies.

Required Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Expertise in implementing best practices, developing, and implementing quality improvement programs, test plan creation and execution, internal audits, and a variety of other quality and/or process improvement initiatives with experience working with large scale projects.

  • Knowledge of standard Project Management practices, including but not limited to PMI established best practices.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistics and its applications

Education, Certification/License & Work Experience
  • Must demonstrate track record of successful leadership in leading a continuous improvement team
  • BS in Engineering or Technology, or related field preferred
  • 4-6 years Logistics experience (warehousing and transportation)
  • Proven continuous improvement experience
  • Previous team management required, remote reporting a plus
  • Must demonstrate ability to build consensus
  • APICS certification (CSCP, CLTD) a plus
  • Six Sigma Black Belt / Green Belt or Certified Lean Master (CLM) preferred

Salary range: $111,600 - $125,550 annually based upon experience
