Peraton is seeking a highly technical, proactive, Analytic Chemist with expertise in organic and/or analytical chemistry to provide analytical chemistry support for a program that delivers a broad range of engineering and scientific services to a national-level customer.
Our unique team of technical and business disciplines provide operational support for Systems Engineering/Integration, Mission Planning, and Business Operations to multiple functional mission areas. The team is responsible for technical design, operations, and mission planning and business operations for the full life cycle of customer specific operations (from concept through development and installation/O&M).
The Analytic Chemist will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Research and analysis on various substances (organic or inorganic) to determine chemical properties, composition, structure, etc., and to investigate potential applications to national security. Develop solutions to technical problems.
- Solve uniquely complex problems, working under consultative direction.
- Stay up to date in latest Chemical and Biological threats to National Security.
- Develop technical papers and/or presentations for a broad audience and present them at meetings.
- Provide advice to the organization in area of expertise.
- Frequently interface with internal/external customers and makes significant contributions to department goals and planning efforts.
- Apply advanced principles, theories, and concepts to job assignments, and contributes to the development of new ideas and principles.
- Play a role in overall functional strategic planning.
- Review and revise technical descriptions of chemicals and reactions.
- Independently assess data quality, identify trends, issues and make recommendations to the Program Manager for appropriate action.
- Provide technical support to testing, design, development, and maintenance of chemical technology.
- Will often be required to speak for the organization to internal/external customers and works on long-range programs and objectives.
- Conducting, reviewing, and participating in chemical studies, experiments on organic and inorganic compounds and materials, analyses, and tests which require technical knowledge and techniques in projects regarding organization research, production or operation.
** This role requires the candidate to perform duties on-site Mon-Fri. Hands on laboratory testing is not required**
**Work travel may include one discretionary trip per quarter**
Required Qualifications:
- Background and knowledge of analytical chemistry techniques and experience with laboratory equipment, including Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), Raman Spectroscopy, and X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and others
- Must be an effective communicator with good interpersonal skills, and will interact daily with laboratory personnel and customers alike; communicate complex issues, clearly, concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences; the ability to liaise with internal subject matter experts; develop analysis plans, assess and critique plans received from contractors
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, prioritize, problem solve, work several tasks simultaneously, and meet short-fuse deadlines in stressful situations
- Ability to independently assess data quality, identify trends, issues and make recommendations to the Program Manager for appropriate action.
- A current TS/SCI Clearance with Polygraph
- Bachelors' degree from an accredited college in chemistry, chemical engineering, or other related scientific discipline and five (5) years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree and three (3) years of relevant experience, or PhD and no years of relevant experience
- Ability to work efficiently in a small team, as well as independently, in an often extremely fast-paced environment, and knowledge of analytical chemistry techniques and equipment is essential.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelors' degree from an accredited college in chemistry, chemical engineering, or other related scientific discipline and seven (7) years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree and five (5) years of relevant experience, or PhD and two (2) years of relevant experience
