The Operations Research teams are responsible for the design, development, automation, and continuous improvement of the models and tools that power the pricing, inventory, and ancillary systems. This includes the forecast and optimizer that supports Revenue Management (RM) and Network Planning (NP) Analysts’ business process and drive revenue and network improvements. They push RM and NP organization to new horizons using the latest tools and methods creating new potential revenue opportunities.

• This role is responsible for developing and driving improvements in Revenue Management and Network Planning systems by building automation forecasting and optimization engines that are responsible for increased performance and revenue for all flights in the American Airlines network.
• The role is a part of the Revenue Engineering Team within our Revenue Management group.

What You'll Do

• Partners with Information Technology to implement prototype solutions and improve systems.
• Deliver professional presentations and communications around complex topics targeted to varied audiences.
• Implement prototype solutions using programming languages such as Python and Java, statistical tools like R, as well as business insights
• Participates in model design, prototype, model development, and model implementation.
• Defines and solves complex problems through quantitative analysis and analytical models, using operations research, statistics, machine learning, and forecasting techniques.
• Works within revenue management and various commercial groups to creatively solve business problems by understanding business processes and airline economics in order to identify and implement solutions that will drive revenue performance.
• Develop a solid understanding of core airline economics and be well positioned for potential advancement
• Formulates hypotheses and design tests to support business. Leverages statistics to evaluate tests that will drive positive revenue decisions.
• Builds mathematical models, develops applications, and provides support to the business.

All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

• Experience working with a minimum of one programming language like Python, R, Java, or other relevant programming languages
• Knowledge in at least one of these skilled areas: machine learning, optimization, simulation, statistics
• Candidate should be in the process of obtaining a Master’s/PhD degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

• Experience solving large-scale problems and familiarity with the airline industry are a plus
• Candidate is in the process of obtaining a PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering or related field

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

• Strong experience with Python, R, writing complex SQL queries, Big Data or experience with other data mining packages is a plus.
• Willingness to show initiative and take ownership of job responsibilities.
• Successful candidates will have a demonstrated aptitude for logical analysis, problem identification, and problem solving as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
