Job Description

Branch is on a mission to make insurance less expensive, so more people can be covered. We use data, tech, and automation to simplify insurance from start to finish — cutting out the long, bait-and-switch quotes and unnecessary costs in the traditional insurance process. Then we pass those savings along to our members. The result? Prices in seconds. Hundreds in savings.

But we’re not just changing the way home and auto insurance works. We want to change what it means to “work in insurance,” too. Restoring insurance to its original purpose — a force for communal good. Together, we’re getting back to getting each other’s back.

Branch's Finance and Accounting Team

Our Finance and Accounting team works as the backbone of financial management and reporting for the entire Branch Organization. We bring best practices in automation into a traditionally task-focused area to unleash talented professionals to spend more of their time on value-add investigations and less of their time on repetitive work. We're responsible for everything from treasury management and statutory accounting to financial planning and strategic initiatives. We provide best-in-class financial information into each department as we collaboratively build the next leading insurance company.

About the Analyst, Claims Finance role

The Analyst, Claims Finance, plays a crucial role in the Claims Finance team, focusing on the reporting and analysis of Branch Insurance's claims organization. This position is responsible for monthly and quarterly reporting duties, providing valuable insights into the efficiency metrics and financial performance of the claims department. The Analyst, Claims Finance collaborates closely with the claims team to gather data, conduct analysis, and contribute to data-driven decision-making processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of financial models and tools to enhance claims analysis and forecasting capabilities for regular reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with finance, accounting, and data analytics teams to ensure accurate and consistent financial reporting related to claims operations.
  • Drive differential insights to drive business.
  • Evaluate revenue-generating components of the claims organization, including TPA fees, recoveries, subrogation, salvage, and other sources of income, for monthly and quarterly reporting purposes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including claims, finance, actuarial, and operations, to drive collaboration and achieve shared reporting goals.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of monthly and quarterly expense components, such as claims processing costs, administrative expenses, and other relevant financial metrics.
  • Stay informed about industry best practices, regulatory changes, and advancements in claims finance methodologies to enhance monthly and quarterly reporting processes.
  • Identify trends and patterns in claims data to support decision-making processes and contribute to process improvement initiatives on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Support the Claims Finance team in monthly and quarterly reporting of the claims organization's performance, including efficiency metrics and financial results.
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of accurate and timely monthly and quarterly reports that provide insights into claims performance, including efficiency metrics, expense components, and revenue generation.
  • Collaborate with the claims team to gather and analyze data related to cycle time, processing efficiency, and other key performance indicators (KPIs) for regular reporting.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Understanding of monthly and quarterly P&L reporting and analysis, including expense analysis, revenue analysis, and profitability assessment.
  • Preferred 2 years of experience in finance or accounting, preferably in the insurance industry with a focus on claims finance or related functions.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively present complex financial information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders in monthly and quarterly reporting discussions.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet monthly and quarterly reporting timelines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and establish strong working relationships to meet monthly and quarterly reporting deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in financial analysis tools, such as Excel and data visualization software, for monthly and quarterly reporting.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to accuracy in financial reporting and analysis for monthly and quarterly reporting deliverables.

Benefits - Why join us at Branch?

We don’t just get our member’s backs. When you’re a Brancher, we’ve got yours, too — starting with benefits that let you live and work to your fullest.

  • Remote-first (with perks) — Work from where you’re most comfortable and expense your WFH set up and monthly internet. We’ve also got a Columbus HQ and Chicago hub if you like working in an office.
  • Pay equity and transparency — Our pay isn’t just above market, it’s equitable. We let experience and performance drive your success, never your gender, race, orientation, or beliefs.
  • Employee stock options — You’re not just a worker. All full-time employees are part-owners with your own stock options, so you’re personally invested in the company’s growth.
  • Medical, Vision, Dental — Get all the coverage you need for a healthy, happy life. We’ll also contribute $150/month to a Health Savings Account (HSA), administered by Branch.
  • Above-market salary — Branch is a data-driven company. So we do the math on salaries, too. If you get an offer from Branch, you can expect compensation that hits *above* the mark.
  • 401k and contribution matching — Set yourself up for your future retirement. Branch helps you get there on time with a portion of your contributions matched each month.
  • “YouTime” — We don’t just let you control your own time off. We actually encourage you to use it. After your first year at Branch, we’ll even cover up to $1,000 towards your next vacation.

Pay Philosophy:

Every Brancher in the same role gets paid the same base salary and has the same total compensation potential. Branch salaries are paid at the 75th percentile of the Midwest, meaning that 75 out of 100 times, Branch will pay more than an offer from another company. Branch uses variable compensation to incentivize and reward individual performance through either monthly commissions or semi-annual bonuses.

About Branch

It’s time we see the forest through the trees.

At Branch, we think insurance has lost its way. We’re restoring insurance back to its original intent: a force for communal good. We’re getting back to getting each other's back.
