The Department of Environmental Protection is seeking candidates who are dedicated to protecting the health and safety of Pennsylvania's citizens and environment. There is a 12-month training period during which time the incumbent will be trained to perform the duties of an Air Quality Engineering Specialist. The work products produced are reviewed by the supervisor before being issued or released.
This position is assigned to the Southwest Regional Office Air Quality Program. The individual in this position reviews Plan Approval and Operating Permit applications submitted to allow the construction, modification, and operation of air contamination sources and/or control devices. In this position, you will recommend the issuance or denial of Plan Approvals and Operating Permits to the Regional Program Manager and the Environmental Engineer Manager on the basis of review of the applications.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh.
- Full-time employment.
- Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of engineering experience, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
- A bachelor’s degree in the field of engineering.
- This position requires possession of a Class C Driver's License.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
