Job Description

Overview:

FM Global has an opportunity for an experienced adjuster, preferably with a commercial property claims and/or engineering background to work in the Chicago Operations Claims office in Park Ridge, IL.


Responsibilities:

The incumbent investigates, resolves, and settles Property Damage claims within their assigned authority in an equitable manner to the satisfaction of the client and FM Global in accordance with policy terms and conditions. They provide direction and assistance to the client with loss mitigation, salvage, restoration of production, claims preparation and subrogation. In addition, the incumbent retains, manages, and controls internal and external consultants, as needed.

Depending on the experience level, the incumbent is assigned Property Damage and Business Interruption losses, of varying degrees of size and complexity generally in excess of $100,000 and often in excess of $1,000,000 within the Operations geographical area, or as otherwise directed by the Operations Claims Manager.
Consults with the insureds and offers FM Global assistance in loss mitigation, salvage, restoration of production and claims preparation. In addition to seeking assistance within FM Global, in consultation with a supervisor, the incumbent is authorized to engage recognized independent adjusters, forensic accountants, consultants, engineers or salvage experts. They are also responsible for identifying legal needs, and with the approval of the Operations Claims Manager also recommends engagement of attorneys where subrogation is involved.
Negotiates with the insured to reconcile differences of opinion about the extent of loss and determines policy coverage application to reach an equitable and fair settlement as promptly as possible.

When a loss is settled, forwards the claim with their recommendations for payment to the Operations office where the account is written for final review and approval.

Adheres to Fair Claims Handling requirements relating to claim investigations and payments as outlined in the state/provincial manuals and FM Global Claims operating requirements.
The incumbent keeps the insured and FM Global claims offices advised of progress of losses being handled via timely letters and memos. Disagreements relating to coverage and measurement disputes shall be brought to the attention of the Operations Claims Manager Written for review and action.
Jurisdictional licensing may be necessary in some cases.
The position is primarily office based with required field work. The candidate must be willing to travel, sometimes with short notice, and work out of town as needed in order to effectively manage assigned losses.

Qualifications:

Education:
4-year university degree is preferred however equivalent work experience will be considered
Experience
2 or more years of commercial property claims experience or field engineering experience preferred
Skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be organized and possess ability to make quick and sound recommendations.
  • An understanding of claims processes and procedures
  • Interpersonal skills including negotiating and consulting

We are considering Mid and Senior Level candidates for this role. The hiring range is $80,400 - $149,500. These ranges are representative of the hiring salary for the role. The final salary offer will vary based on geographic location, individual education, skills, and experience.
