The Role
Boston Common Asset Management (BCAM) is seeking a motivated Engagement Summer Associate to join our inclusive and collaborative engagement team. They will report to BCAM’s Head of Stewardship & Engagement, supporting the second year of implementation of Boston Common’s Net Zero Asset Managers (NZAM) plan.
This 10-week internship will be an excellent opportunity for a student interested in learning more about global stewardship and engagement. By the end of the summer, the Engagement Summer Associate will have an increased understanding of how different companies and sectors are addressing climate risks. They will also have the chance to connect with team members and summer associates across all business areas at BCAM.
The Engagement Summer Associate role is a paid, full-time, fully remote position for ten weeks during the summer of 2023. While the summer associate can be located outside the state of Massachusetts, we will require them to work from 9 am to 5 pm ET.
Key Responsibilities
The Engagement Summer Associate will support Boston Common’s engagement team in their work focused on how portfolio companies are managing their climate transition and setting interim climate goals. More specifically, they will:
- Conduct desktop research and letter writing to engage the firm’s top 10 highest carbon emitters.
- Engage financial sector companies in their climate transition and climate target setting.
- Assist in conducting passive outreach to companies that had insufficient climate targets for 2023 as identified through ISS reporting.
- Gather and analyze data to support the engagement team’s work.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be a mature, trustworthy marketing student with high energy and an enthusiasm for expanding their knowledge of a variety of marketing tools. The student should be a rising junior or above and will possess the following qualities and skills:
- Team player that excels in a collaborative environment but can also work effectively independently
- Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
- Enthusiasm for and knowledge of financial markets and sustainable investing are a plus
- Ability to anticipate and solve problems, as well as think about the next steps and implications in a process
- Completion of tasks in an accurate and timely fashion
- Strong oral and written communication skills with a straightforward approach
Compensation
Compensation will depend on the summer associate’s academic year. In addition to an hourly wage, BCAM also provides:
