Spanish English Interpreter Jobs in Washington

Minimum of four (4) years of experience in language interpretation in the mode required by the assignment.

Provide interpretation services within (3) hours of request of the Government.

Qualifying scores ILR 3 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests.

Know specialized vocabulary (and terminology) in both English and the foreign language related to the Government’s varied roles and missions.

Speak in English and foreign language fluently, including regionalisms and colloquial slang without altering meaning.

Interpret in a manner that is factually and conceptually accurate without changes, omissions, or additions.

Experience with Virginia Department of Social Services case management system, VaCMS.

Some experience providing administrative support and customer service in a human services environment required.

Two (2) years of experience providing administrative support in a human services environment;

One (1) year of customer service experience in a high-volume call center environment;

Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel to produce correspondence, spreadsheets, and other confidential documents; and

Performing client/customer intake reception at six entry points within three Divisions;

0-1 years related work experience required.

Abides by the Massachusetts Interpreter Association's Code of Ethics and the MMIA Standards of Practice.

Keeps accurate statistical data as required.

High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Completed medical interpreter training program.

Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.

2 years of experience in translation of English and source language; Must pass a competency exam and skills assessment.

Coursework/Training: Training and education in translation competencies or equivalent experience.

Upon hire: National Certified Medical Interpreter - National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters

1 year of interpretation experience in a medical clinic or hospital setting.

Coursework/Training: Continuing education and/or training preferred in medical interpretation competencies, translation and medical terminology/phrases.

Coursework/Training: Professional training in translation or equivalent educ/experience

Facilitate communication among patients, families, and staff.

Interpret directly and accurately , without omissions, addition or interference with communication.

Set limits appropriately; maintain professional boundaries as interpreter; maintain patient, family and staff rights to confidentiality privacy .

Translate quickly and accurately patient-specific discharge instructions, physician and nursing instructions, and care instructions.

Educate staff in use of interpreter and available interpretation services.

Communicate with staff about staff needs and patient/family needs.
