Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment

Municipal or federal correctional officer, including attending a full-time accredited LE/Corrections Academy (must have enforcement responsibilities)

Prior civilian or military K9 handler experience

Properly train the Explosive Detection Canine, in accordance with Company policy, each day and ensuring their safety and well-being

Adhere to all regulatory or other protocols, including the use of any required technology

High school diploma or equivalent

Responds and receives shipments of goods to the hospital after regular hours coordinating activities with Materials Management.

Monitors, detains, restrains, and effectively manages disruptive or combatant patients.

Handler will be responsible for maintaining updated case law knowledge involving canine issues.

2 year or Associate degree, preferred. May be substituted for one year of experience.

CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 3 months from date of hire, required.

Aerosol Subject Restraint Certification (Pepper Spray), required. Completion of official police or peace officer training academy may substitute.

Participates in public appearances and educational demonstrations as authorized by the Director.

Regularly monitors conditions and activities while patrolling the hospital facility. Ensures relevant Corewell policies are followed and violations are reported.

Takes responsibility for anticipating, recognizing and appraising safety/security risks and hazards; initiates appropriate action to reduce or remove them.

Completes routine daily log and /or investigation reports as required, documents non-routine activities for referral and data collection to supervision.

Maintains all security equipment in working conditions inclusive of all canine equipment.

Assists Emergency Center staff with Hazmat/Decontamination procedures providing security and maintaining order in the decontamination areas.

Analyze and report on the needs to counter the cultivation of poppy.

Assist in the efforts to increase the number of manual eradication and community prosperity missions conducted every year.

Schedule and conduct reoccurring train teams for recertification’s and remedial, sustainment, and advancement training

Must maintain all job-related certifications and required security clearances

Minimum of five years of experience training canines and teams in explosive detection

Three years of documented experience handling an explosive detection dog in an operational environment

A working knowledge in the area of investigations, possess investigative and analytical skills.

Must be “team centered” and promote a positive work environment. Must work well with other departments and management as necessary.

Able to communicate clearly with staff, management, and the public through oral and written word.

The K9 Handler will maintain the canine’s proficiency in explosives detection through routine training and certification.

3 years prior experience preferred in law enforcement, military or private security.

Ability to pass a company approved canine certification course within the first 90 days of employment.

9. Basic knowledge of criminal and civil laws, basic investigation skills, and behavior health experience is preferred.

1. High school diploma or equivalent is required. Associate degree is preferred.

5. Valid California Driver License and a good driving record are required.

6. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR card is required upon hire.

8. Ability to work as part of a team is required.
