POSITION OVERVIEW


The K9 Handler is responsible for ensuring the safety of Members and guests by utilizing a trained and certified explosive detection dog to locate suspicious packages or objects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following and other duties may be assigned as necessary:

  • Collaborate with the security team to develop and implement effective security strategies using K9 assets
  • Utilize K9 teams to enhance safety for guests and Members by conducting regular patrols and providing a visible security presence
  • Maintain accurate records of K9 activities, training sessions, deployments, and incidents
  • Perform basic canine first aid when needed
  • Attend ongoing training for K9 teams, including obedience, scent detection, and apprehension exercises
  • Provide detailed reports to management following any significant K9-related incidents or security breaches
  • Deploy K9 teams to respond to security incidents, threats, or suspicious activities
  • Monitor K9 performance and assess the need for additional training to ensure peak proficiency
  • Stay updated on industry best practices for K9 handling, training techniques, and security measures
  • Maintain and respect confidentiality of guest and Member information
  • Utilize K9 teams for various security tasks, such as explosive detection, narcotics detection, crowd control, and patrol
  • Coordinate with law enforcement and emergency services as needed
  • Maintain day to day health and welfare of assigned dog and conduct daily kennel care
  • Temporary or permanent duties and responsibilities may be added to or modified as deemed necessary
  • Search vehicles, packages, luggage, rooms, and other areas / objects that could contain explosive materials
  • Train and certify with an explosive detection dog
  • Collaborate with the security team to identify opportunities for enhancing overall security protocols
  • Ensure the safety of guests and Members by responding promptly to medical emergencies, providing first aid when necessary, and facilitating medical assistance as required

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Ability to uphold and demonstrate the highest level of integrity in all situations and recognize standards required by a regulated business.
  • Currently holds Nevada CCW permit, or able to complete upon hire. Alternatively, HR218 qualification accepted
  • Ability to complete firearm training certification
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Report writing skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; higher education in Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, or a related field is a plus
  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to include nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Able to take action in solving problems while exhibiting judgment and a realistic understanding of issues; able to use reason, even when dealing with emotional topics; review facts and weigh options
  • Able to remain open-minded and change opinions on the basis of new information; perform a wide variety of tasks and change focus quickly as demands change; manage transitions effectively from task to task; adapt to varying customer needs
  • Literacy and fluent in English
  • Experience working in the field for a high volume, luxury, complex resort is a plus
  • Work in a fast-paced, busy, and somewhat stressful environment
  • Previous certification as a K9 handler or trainer is a plus
  • Knowledge of relevant safety regulations and industry standards
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in armed security or as a first responder, emergency medical technician (EMT), or a similar role
  • Must have at least 1-year armed security experience
  • Must have a valid Drivers’ License and clean driving record
  • Ability to wear required gear for extended periods of time
  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) required
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in armed team crisis response tactics
  • Computer literacy required
  • Proven ability to maintain the confidentiality of the material being handled
  • Ability to complete defensive tactics & handcuffing certification
  • Knowledge of firearms including shooting proficiency with pistols and carbines
  • Strong understanding of canine behavior, training methodologies, and obedience techniques

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Member must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state, and local regulations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in English may also be required.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the Member is regularly required to stand and use hands and fingers to handle or utilize objects, tools, or controls. The Member frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision.

The Member must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and must have the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces.
