Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

Minimum of 5 years of experience in a polymer engineering role, preferably in the rubber industry

Strong knowledge of polymer chemistry, processing techniques, and structure-property relationships

Prepare and complete characterization of new materials (primarily thermoplastics) using various equipment and testing capabilities

Experience operating and interpreting polymer characterization techniques (TGA, DSC, DMA, FTIR, etc.)

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Experience contributing to team technical discussions and presenting results in front of other technical audiences, such as customers

Excellent analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills

High self-motivation, initiative, and interpersonal skills

Basic machine troubleshooting skills/ability to solve mechanical issues

Physical requirements include but not limited to sitting, standing, climbing, walking, lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing, stooping, crouching, color determination and grasping.

Safely and efficiently complete the assembly process, ensuring high quality and repeatability

Perform various complex machine setups, including dip tube changes and mechanical parts changes

Experience in biopolymer extractions from seaweed/agricultural products, fractionation, and chemical compositional analysis.

Solid knowledge in the structure-property relationships of a broad range of biopolymers and biocomposites.

Good communication and problem-solving skills.

Advanced knowledge of polymer resin characterization, including chemical composition and molecular weight distribution analysis.

Proven ability as a creative experimentalist, and a diverse range of experience in experimental design, techniques and execution.

Experience with polymer material additive manufacturing (AM), including synthesis of AM feedstock materials and/or actual AM fabrication processes.

Experience with commercial gumstock and composite preparation processes such as roll mixing, intensive shear mixing, and/or extrusion.
