Polymer/Chemical Engineering Technician
GattaCo Inc is seeking a part-time technician / intern to support IVD product design and prototyping.
GattaCo is developing a microfluidic based blood-plasma processing device for downstream testing, and we are seeking a highly motivated engineering graduate or post-doctoral student with experience in polymer chemistry, specifically with the modification of physical properties. The immediate focus of the role is to support the ongoing development of surface chemistry, treatment, and/or coating of blood filtration membrane materials.
The ideal candidate should have:
·MS or PhD in Materials Science or Chemical Engineering
·Experience working with water soluble polymers and common crosslinking agents
·Experience in modifying wetting properties of hydrophobic polymers
·Familiarity in surface chemistry modification/application techniques
·Experience or familiarity with testing methodologies for surface energy/contact angle
·Functional testing will be performed using human blood and/or blood products so familiarity with blood handling procedure is a must.
This position is intended to be part-time, hourly, but can expand to full-time including benefits depending on skills and needs.
This position is 100% in person at our Murrieta facility with no opportunity for remote work.
Job Responsibilities:
·Candidate to report directly to GattaCo Director of Engineering.
·Collaborate with R&D in the design and prototyping of a custom treated blood-plasma separation membrane.
·Track/record all work performed using Good Documentation Practices.
·Execute hands-on membrane treatment processes using common lab equipment.
·Evaluate treatments and/or process performance using advanced analytical equipment (FTIR, SEM, etc)
·Work with R&D and Operations to identify scalable treatment processes.
Candidate Requirements:
·Minimum of two years experience formulating and using water soluble polymers as coatings.
·B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Materials Science or Chemical Engineering or a similar discipline (not required based on experience).
·Advanced understanding of various polymer coating processes.
·Strong problem solving, troubleshooting, experimentation, and cross-functional communication skills.
