4 years of journey-level experience as a Locksmith is required.

6 years of experience as a journey-level Locksmith.

Asbestos and or Lead abatement certification.

Fire Door and ADA certification with ability to maintain.

Working knowledge of Medeco and Schlage Keyway systems.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in access control, installation, and maintenance.

Proven problem solving, decision making, and interpersonal skills.

Knowledge of access control, CCTV and alarm system an asset.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25lbs.

1. Installs, repairs, rebuilds and opens mechanical and electronic locks, locking systems, door closures and locking devices.

3. Cuts new or duplicate keys using key cutting machines according to specifications.

5. Provides advice regarding the type of hardware to use on doors and casings.

6. Prepares estimates of time, labor and materials. Prepares reports reflecting daily operations and project status.

Highly knowledgeable of standard practices, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment used in locksmith trade and electronic access system.

Knowledgeable in high-security institutional lock systems (mogul, paracentric, disc detainer, tubular, etc.).

Knowledgeable in maintaining master key code systems, including records and documentation of issued keys.

Skill in the use of locksmith tools, hand tools, and shop equipment.

Knowledge of occupational hazards and adheres to necessary safety precautions.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Repair, maintain and change safe and vault combinations.

Utilize key cutting machines, drills, saws, buffers and grinders, key gauges and locksmith tools.

Provide technical guidance and direction to lower level personnel.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Experience with project estimating and project management

Strong organizational and communication skills

Recruiting, hiring, and training City employees.

Acquiring, selling, and leasing City property.

Purchasing over $1 billion in goods and services for City agencies.

Overseeing the greenest municipal vehicle fleet in the country.

Completion of a certified commercial locksmith training/educational program required

Opens locks/doors and repairs and/or adjusts locks and locking devices on/in doors and furniture/cabinets for proper closure.

Maintains supplies/inventory. Assists in establishing par levels. Informs supervisor of items needed to be ordered.

1-2 years as a locksmith preferred
