Criminal Justice Policy Analyst Jobs

A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree. A Master's degree may be substituted for the required experience.

Must have two (2) years of experience in collecting, analyzing, and presenting information.

Must have knowledge of Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, and Publisher and ability to use computer programs.

This position involves critical duties and responsibilities that must continue to be performed during crisis situations and contingency operations.

Experience in intelligence analysis, using programs such as i2 Analyst Notebook, and open source research preferred.

Perform other criminal analytical duties as assigned.

Attends training sessions as required to gain skills and knowledge.

Analyses progress of investigations and outlines requirements for follow-up or additional investigation.

Retrieves and manages crime database information and ensures it is maintained on case intake and dispositions.

Participates with CDI investigators, in the planning and conduct of investigations.

Prepares, analyzes, and evaluates reports.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required by the position

Knowledge of computer data systems, statistical analysis, and mapping programs.

Knowledge of principles of statistics and quantitative analysis, qualitative analysis, demographic and social variables affecting public safety.

Skill in computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite).

Strong attention to detail and research skills.

Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Extremely well organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment;

Supports National Work and Family Coalition by planning bimonthly meetings, updating listservs, and maintaining organizational sign-on letters;

Supports logistics for events, written products and internal organization projects;

Assists team members with academic and legislative research and data requests;

Supports the team in drafting and updating fact sheets and issue briefs for public dissemination to Hill and coalition partners;

Edits and proofs fact sheets, issue briefs, reports, coalition emails and other written communications;

Strong communication and time management skills

Minimum 3 years’ experience with data analysis, analytics and/or business intelligence software

Electronic Monitoring industry experience preferred

Excellent communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills

Strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while prioritizing timelines

Performs proactive diagnostic analysis, making corrective recommendations, and providing easy-to-interpret reporting on specific EM events of interest based on customer-specific protocols

Write grant proposals and manage grants received for research projects.

Conduct evaluation and research of corrections and juvenile and criminal justice programs:

Conduct research on existing policies and practice by developing research methodologies and data collection methods, calculating and analyzing statistical data.

Based on the evaluations and research, write reports with recommendations to improve the criminal and juvenile justice systems in Iowa.

Respond to special research requests by the Justice Advisory Board.

Compile statistical data and conduct research to produce analysis reports for other agencies via contractual agreements.

Relevant training and/or certifications as an Intelligence Analyst

Experience in crime intelligence analysis related to social media platforms

Analyzes telephone and cellular phone records for activity and to find links with crimes, other criminals or crime groups.

Compiles and analyzes findings for case investigators. Determines links between criminals and crimes and relationships between criminals and crime groups.

May determine and compile reports on criminal associations and crime patterns on organized crime, white-collar crime and major conspiracies.

Demonstrate skills in intelligence analysis

Demonstrate skills in critical thinking

Demonstrated skills in social media research and analysis

Demonstrate experience in supporting law enforcement investigations and task forces

Have experience with Intelligence Analysis, Targeting, Geospatial Analysis

Have experience working on task forces, task teams or in similar environments

Experience with stakeholder engagement and project management.

Extensive knowledge of and experience in health equity programs, racial and social justice.

Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience in facilitation and presentation.

Strong analytical skills and ability to manage and report complex information.

Prior experience leading multi-faceted, complex initiatives.

Background in trauma-informed systems approach (some familiarity, at a minimum; training and experience in implementing, a plus).

Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions

Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent

Experience: Three years’ experience in criminal intelligence analysis work (or closely related) field

Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines

Skill in effective oral and written communication (Writing sample required at time of interview, if selected)

Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making

Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and partners of varied backgrounds and experience.

Knowledge of environmental and climate justice concepts and topics.

Excellent research and analytical skills and an interest in performing rigorous research in support of highly visible work.

Experience balancing the needs of diverse stakeholders.

Ability to work with colleagues and partners of varied backgrounds and experience.

Perform timely in-house research and analysis to support J&E senior staff and other EDF Mission Areas throughout the organization.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• Excellent writing ability and presentation skills.

• Data analysis skills, including proficiency with spreadsheets.

• Skills in data visualization and mapping.

• Monitor local, state, and federal policy issues and emerging trends in criminal justice reform.
