Job Description

The National Partnership for Women & Families is a nonprofit, nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization that fights for equity for all women and families. We’re passionate about making change on big issues such as equal pay for all women, paid leave for working families and access to affordable health care that provides abortion and reproductive care. We advocate on the Hill and for federal, state and local policy.

We are seeking an Economic Justice Policy Associate to support the team in furthering the National Partnership’s policy goals by supporting coalition engagement and updating partner organizations on advancements in paid family and medical leave and paid sick leave, assisting with policy and factual research, monitoring news and tracking press clips, maintaining and updating databases, and supporting scheduling and expenses to the Economic Justice team.

The Economic Justice Policy Associate Position is based in Washington, DC and reports to the Vice President for Economic Justice. The National Partnership is a hybrid organization where a majority of staff are required to report to the office a minimum four (4) days a month.

Responsibilities

  • Assists team members with academic and legislative research and data requests;
  • Supports National Work and Family Coalition by planning bimonthly meetings, updating listservs, and maintaining organizational sign-on letters;
  • Occasionally represents the organization to external partners;
  • Responds to requests for information from the public and coalition members;
  • Supports logistics for events, written products and internal organization projects;
  • Edits and proofs fact sheets, issue briefs, reports, coalition emails and other written communications;
  • Supports the team in drafting and updating fact sheets and issue briefs for public dissemination to Hill and coalition partners;
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Monitors relevant news;
  • Provides administrative support to team and Vice President;

Qualifications

An ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate that they are:

  • Understanding of racial and gender justice concepts and commitment to centering them in work projects and interactions (both internal and external) by addressing structural implications and disproportionate impacts of policies and institutions on historically oppressed groups.
  • A strong interest in and passion for the mission of the organization and economic and health justice issues;
  • Comfortable working as part of a team and in a collaborative environment; and
  • An excellent verbal and written communicator;
  • Familiar with office technology and software;
  • Extremely well organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Highly attentive to detail in written documents and when supporting meetings and events;
  • Curious about and familiar with research and finding out information and evaluating its quality;

Classification

The National Partnership recognizes a staff bargaining unit, National Partnership United, affiliated with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union/IFPTE Local 70, a union for non-profit workers. This position is included in the NP United bargaining unit. Specific employment terms are subject to collective bargaining.

Salary & Benefits

The minimum salary starts at $58,461 with exact salary based on total relevant experience. The National Partnership provides a generous benefits package that includes three weeks annual vacation time, paid sick time, paid federal holidays plus the last week of December, health, dental, and vision coverage, 403B and SEP-IRA retirement options, and paid family and medical leave for eligible employees.

Note that accrued vacation and sick time are currently suspended for new employees while the National Partnership temporarily offers ad-hoc unlimited administrative leave for employees during the COVID-19 pandemic, recognizing that we all have a range of caregiving needs, including self-care and care for others during this challenging time.

The Economic Justice Policy Associate is a full-time position based in our Washington, D.C. office. The National Partnership maintains a hybrid work environment where staff are required to be in the office a minimum of 4 days per month, with additional in-office and in-person days determined by your role and job responsibilities.

The National Partnership is a 50 person staff that fosters a collaborative culture. We have a collegial work environment. The National Partnership is committed to protecting our employees and our communities from COVID-19. Toward that goal, the National Partnership requires all employees to be fully vaccinated and completely up to date via an FDA authorized and/or approved COVID-19 vaccination. Fully Vaccinated is defined by the CDC as being 2 weeks after the final dose in a primary series of COVID-19 vaccines (2 doses of Pfizer or Moderna, 1 dose of Johnson & Johnson). Up to date means a person has received all recommended COVID-19 vaccines, including any booster dose(s) when eligible. New employees must be fully vaccinated before their start date, and up-to-date as soon as eligible, unless an exemption due to a medical condition or a sincerely held religious belief or practice is granted.
