Area Director Clinical Documentation Integrity Jobs

8-12 years of relevant experience and 7+ years of leadership / management experience, required.

Develops and manages direct reports; oversees the development and management of indirect reports.

Current License to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State required, plus specialized certifications as needed.

Develops and articulates a short-term strategic vision for areas of responsibility.

Builds and maintains productive inter/intra departmental and vendor work relationships to optimize operations.

Oversees compliance with government and agency regulations.

Utilizes advanced knowledge of disease processes (pathophysiology), medications, and have critical thinking skills to analyze current documentation to identify gaps.

Facilitates appropriate modifications to documentation through extensive interactions and collaboration with physicians, coding, case management, nursing and other care givers.

Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) certification or Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) certification

Documentation of discharge diagnoses and co-morbidities are a complete reflection of the patient's clinical status and care.

Identifies opportunities in concurrent and retrospective inpatient clinical medical documentation to support quality and effective coding.

Be Knowledgeable – knowledge applied thoughtfully to others.

A minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role preferred or 3 years acute care experience.

Advanced knowledge of best practices in medical recordkeeping.

In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, coding, and procedures.

Extensive experience in collecting and interpreting medical information, as well as training staff.

Excellent organizational and communication skills.

A minimum of five years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle management (ie. Clinical documentation improvement, health information management, etc.)

Must have a strong background in coding skills with experience in ICD-10 and working knowledge of the AHA Coding Clinic

Previous experience in a Supervisory or Management role

Possess strong time management and organizational skills.

Interacts with senior management levels at a client and/or within Intellis

Participates in educational activities to improve job skills and knowledge.

Demonstrates competency in obtaining documentation improvement modifications in accordance with all related guidelines and regulatory requirements.

Actively communicates with CDI Manager and Physician Liaison regarding program barriers/success/outcomes of CDI program.

Working knowledge of the Medicare reimbursement system preferred.

Previous CDI or related field experience, required.

CCDS and/or CDIP Certification preferred.

Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management

Five years Clinical Documentation Integrity experience

Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Demonstrated broad clinical knowledge base necessary to review a wide variety of medical records

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing OR

Current state Registered Nurse license OR

Minimum three (3) years of work experience in clinical nursing, Healthcare Consulting, Operations or Project management, in a health care setting.

Minimum two (2) years of experience in health information management or clinical documentation.

Minimum one (1) year of management, supervisory or leadership* experience.

Previous nursing management experience in an acute care setting and/or management consulting experience preferred.

Successful completion of a professional American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) sponsored/recognized coding course

Conducts the initial concurrent review process for all selected admissions

Clarifies documentation in the medical record as appropriate through communication with the physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff

Documents findings on the electronic DRG worksheet and identifies other key pathway or quality indicators as appropriate

Refers problematic cases to inpatient coding coordinator or supervisor/CDI and audit

5 years of progressive CDI experience with a working knowledge of core CDI administrative operations.

Thorough knowledge of clinical documentation requirements, clinical procedures, disease processes, treatments, and the patient populations served.

Works in collaboration with CDI leadership and CDI Data Informaticist to ensure current documentation practices meet compliance requirements.

Surveys, catalogs, and reports on formal education and onboarding education success via provider responses and compliance tracking.

Strong Organization and Quantitative Analysis skills including spreadsheet applications and statistics.

This position is work from home eligible.

Preferred: Experience with clinical documentation and understanding of clinical coding requirements.

REPORTS TO POSITION: Manager, Clinical Documentation

This position does not directly manage any other Caregivers.

Maintains current knowledge of Medicare’s rules, regulations, and guidelines.

Required: Minimum three (3) years of experience in acute inpatient clinical care.

Must have excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse population and professionally represent SCHS.

Prior airway clearance therapy experience is preferred; but not required.

Collaborates with Case Management leaders, HIM staff and clinical teams routinely as predicated on business need.

In collaboration with facility administrative team, determine content, audience and venue of education

Implements and provides oversight for a Multi-site Clinical Documentation Integrity Program in an organized and standardized manner.

Participates in mentoring and training new clinical documentation Integrity staff.

Establishes effective working relationships with the hospital, Area, Region and Support Center staff.

Facilitates appropriate clinical documentation to support, identify and validate all of the appropriate diagnoses.
