The Executive Administrator of HIM & Clinical Revenue Integrity will serves as a key member to the organization that will be responsible to lead an enterprise-wide transformation, including providing leadership in strategizing, coordinating, and facilitating opportunities for the development of health information management, release of information, transcription, coding, clinical revenue integrity (i.e., charge description master) and clinical documentation integrity to support Keck Medicine System.
Ensures operational efficiencies to ensure optimal performance for all areas of oversight. Interprets and communicates policies and practices related to areas of oversight. Develops strategies to both maximize improvements for reimbursement, quality metrics and hospital rankings as well as strategies to increase workflow efficiencies and reduce operating costs. Leads activities related to documentation, coding and charge capture with other hospital departments and ensures compliance with regulations. Interprets and communicates documentation requirements to meet regulatory, licensing and coding requirements. Leads efforts in training and developing reporting tools to maintain and manage an effective charge capture function for Keck Medicine. In conjunction with entity CFO’s develops pricing strategies and recommendations to enhance overall charge description master. Leads efforts to maintain charge description master to adhere to all state and federal rules around price transparency.
Responsible for strategic planning in relation to annual departmental budget, projecting estimated needs and operating expenses, staffing and capital expenditures.
Appropriately plans for changing market conditions while proactively adapting to changes within regulations and external environment. Responsible for corporate compliance assurance related to hospital coding, documentation improvement and charge description master.
Serves on various hospital committees.
Essential Duties:
- Leads ongoing training and efforts around charge capture and charge reconciliation for Hospital clinical departments. Developing training and reporting tools to ensure expected metrics are maintained. Communicates with leadership on areas of improvement.
- Provides guidance to organization related HIM related activities to ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards and State and Federal regulations pertaining to documentation.
- Improvements for medical record documentation management within the EHR, clinical documentation improvements, coding and clinical revenue integrity
- Leads the strategic planning process, assisting leaders throughout the enterprise to integrate strategic alignment into departmental plans, managing the progress of key strategic initiatives, internal communication of strategy and strategic events and leading special strategic projects
- Collaborate closely with other executives to define and develop goals and objectives. Set priorities and communicate the strategic plan throughout the organization. Oversee the coordination of resources and activities regarding mission, vision, and strategy and ensure that employees and other stakeholders are working toward common goals
- Provides guidance to Chief Financial Officer and other health system executives on opportunities for enhancements to support
- Develops and implements strategic direction and tactical process on all HIM & Clinical Revenue Integrity activities across the health system, working closely with each entity Leadership to ensure system adherence to critical policy and process. This is to be achieved through strategic direction setting, planning, aligning, executing and integration of growth and operational strategies which should align with and support USC Health’s key business objectives.
- Continually develop and oversee the management of workflow activities and the formulation of policies and procedures relating to assigned departmental functions. Oversee the evaluation and recommendations of programs, procedures for improved operations, modifications to and/or implementations of new procedures. Ensure that all policies and procedures reflect compliance with governmental regulations.
- Develop and maintain a leadership structure to support the infrastructure. Translate leadership plans into operational processes that product timely, measurable outcomes to meet the strategic business objectives of the Health System.
- Establish performance standards (quantitative/qualitative) for area of responsibility; set, monitor, and control productivity standards and outcomes while encouraging innovative concepts and break-through improvement.
- Assures policies, procedures, standards of practice for areas of responsibility are consistent with legal, compliance, regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Other duties as assigned
- Leads annual strategic pricing review for all Hospital entities, working with Hospital CFO’s and Decision Support to develop and deliver and pricing model.
- Maintain key cross functional collaboration to support the Corporate Health System, University Business Services, Office of General Council, Healthcare Compliance team and each Health Care facility within the Health System.
- Oversees the operating budget for the cost centers supporting areas of responsibility to assure effective use of resources.
Required Qualifications:
- Effective communication with all customers.
- Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
- Ability to work with varying groups at all levels of the organization with demonstrated abilities to work effectively in a team-orientated work environment.
- Thorough knowledge of the health care industry, its critical issues, and major challenges.
- Master’s Degree in a related field
- Minimum 10-15 years of extensive management experience in health information management, with particular focus on Electronic Health Record Documentation, coding, clinical documentation improvement, revenue integrity and publically reported health outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Cerner Electronic Health Record experience preferred.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- RHIA required
Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
The annual base salary range for this position is $220,064.00 - $363,105.00.
