Job Description

The Youth Programs Coordinator is responsible for implementing, supervising and coordinating activities within the Juvenile Community Service and Teen Court Programs. Granville County Teen Court and Juvenile Community Service are built on a cooperative effort between NC Cooperative Extension, Division of Juvenile Services, Granville County Law Enforcement, District Court, the District Attorney’s Office and Granville County Public Schools. This position is grant funded by the Granville County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC).


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate weekly life skills workshops and classes
  • Make presentations to community
  • Maintain weekly and professional contact with Juvenile Services department staff
  • Maintain positive rapport with school resource officers, juvenile court counselors, parents, teachers, community groups, etc.
  • Assume responsibility for the daily face-to-face implementation of program components, ensuring that all activities are safe and controlled
  • Monthly reports and NC Allies maintenance
  • Willingness to serve on community boards and committee

Teen Court:

  • Provide program monitoring, budget management, grant writing, community presentations, and maintain positive public relations
  • Confidentiality is required
  • Provide ongoing case management and identify resources
  • Assist with recruiting, training and supervising youth and adult volunteers
  • Managing the overall activities of the Teen Court program

Community Service:

  • The coordinator works to develop new community work sites, oversee existing sites and coordinates with Juvenile services
  • Manage the overall activities of the Juvenile Community Service program


Hours:

Monday through Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm with some flexibility to work some evenings and weekends

  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends for court hearings, trainings or community service site supervision
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Must be 21 years old or older
  • Minimum of an Associate's Degree
  • At least five years of experience working with youth and families
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (obtained within 90 days of hire)

Skills, Abilities and Knowledge:

  • Grant writing and reporting
  • Organizational and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of programs, policies, and operational needs
  • Ability to work with challenging youth and parents
  • Knowledge of the Juvenile Justice System and/or legal system
  • Computer and record keeping experience
  • Financial Management Skills
  • Experience working with young people and at-risk youth.
