Job Title: X-ray Technologist
Reports to: Lead X-ray Technologist and Director of Clinical Services
Supervises: N/A
FLSA status: Non-Exempt
Summary Description
This technologist position is responsible for applying expertise in the area of obtaining diagnostic radiographic images, DEXA scans, and fluoroscopic procedures while providing exemplary quality service to patients.
This position is 34 hours per week, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays and 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays. Click here for FT benefit information.
Essential Functions
- Operates DEXA machine to obtain spine, hip, and forearm bone densitometry scans.
- Selects appropriate anatomical regions of interest and submits for Radiologist interpretation.
- Sends all studies to PACS (image software), including any applicable prior studies. Provides proper documentation to the Radiologist.
- Performs fluoroscopic procedures along with the supervision of a Radiologist when necessary.
- Attends to patient’s care before, during and immediately following exam and notifies the appropriate party if patient’s condition changes at any time.
- Interfaces with Lead regarding any and all concerns.
- Assists the Radiologists with fluoroscopy procedures. Records the amount of fluoroscopy time per exam performed.
- Performs daily inspections of equipment and reports immediately any quality concerns as well as equipment failures or deficiencies.
- Prepares patients for exams by greeting the patient by his/her entire name, obtaining patient history information necessary to perform or evaluate the procedure, and providing instructions and explanation of the procedure to obtain the best possible image and reduce the patient’s anxiety.
- Performs IV catheter insertion for injections of nonionic contrast for specific exams while ensuring proper venipuncture techniques were utilized. Documents amount of contrast injected.
- Attends staff meetings regularly and follows all company policies and procedures.
- Performs clerical duties related to the procedures including entering information into company-specific software and documenting information into patient charts.
- Cleans exam rooms, cassettes and restocks supplies for next patient.
- Prepares area for exam by ensuring the proper equipment and supplies are available before the patient is called for exam. Prepares trays, supplies, etc. for the Radiologist guided procedures.
- Uses RIS to track and complete patient exams, document call reports, patient histories, etc.

Business-specific knowledge: Knowledge of: Colorado Springs Radiologists, P.C. policies and procedures, business-specific software, safety regulations.
Industry-specific knowledge: Knowledge of: laws and regulations pertaining to medical records and patient confidentiality, ethics and standards of appropriate professional organization(s), ICD-10 and CPT coding, radiation safety, aseptic techniques, IV skills.
Mastery:
Specialized equipment: Radiographic and DEXA imaging equipment, computer, crash cart, Oxygen tanks, IV pumps.
Abilities:
Ability to: work independently with minimal supervision; organize and prioritize work and complete within established, reasonable time frames; follow verbal and written instructions; establish and maintain professional working relationships with staff, physicians, management, patients and external contacts; pursue educational and training opportunities to continually add to personal and professional growth in knowledge, skills and abilities pertaining to this position; maintain strict confidentiality of patient, business and employee information at all times; exercise professional judgment and perform all duties in compliance with medical ethics and OSHA standards.
Education/Experience/Licensure/Certification: Graduation from an ARRT accredited Radiologic Program. ARRT certification/eligible required. BLS certification required.
Desirable or Special Qualifications: Previous experience preferred.
