Job Summary

Under general supervision by the RN, the Urgent Care Technician-Limited Scope X-ray Technician provides patient care in accordance with treatment plans, performs tasks as delegated by the RN and other licensed members of the care team, communicates changes in patient condition to the care team. Completes limited diagnostics x-rays as ordered by provider. Also responsible for the collection of comprehensive demographic and insurance information required for facilitating timely and accurate billing of Emergency & Urgent Care patients in a fast-paced, dynamic and demanding environment.

Essential Functions:
  • Works to properly identify patients to increase clean claims and minimize errors associated with misidentification. (5%)
  • Prepare patients for radiologic procedures and protect patients, self and other staff from radiation hazards. (10%)
  • Take X-rays following established procedures for patient care and safety, which involves setting up and operating radiographic (5%)
  • Performs phlebotomy and IV insertion as delegated by the care team. (10%)
  • Obtains vital signs, reports abnormal findings to the care team. (10%)
  • Position patients and take X-ray of specific parts of the patients’ body as requested by the physician. (10%)
  • Coordinate bed assignment, transfers, and discharges through various applications and maintain communications with inpatient nursing units and nursing supervisors. (5%)
  • Calls insurance companies for treatment authorization and benefit information. (5%)
  • Completes documentation for uninsured patients seeking emergency care, to include CICP and Emergency Medicaid. (5%)
  • Completes diagnostic x-rays for patients in the Orthopedic Specialty Clinic within the scope of practice for Limited Scope X-ray Operator certification. (10%)
  • Documents all care given while adhering to the DH EHR policies. (10%)
  • Performs delegated tasks in accordance with DH Clinical Care Guidelines, State rules, and scope of practice. (10%)
  • Verifies and updates patient demographics information and billing insurance information for new and existing patients. (5%)

Education:
  • Completion of American Registry of Radiologic Technician (ARRT) recognized Limited Scope X-ray Operator training program
  • Completion of accredited Medical Assisting program with certificate required

Work Experience:
  • 1 year Medical Assistant experience preferred
  • 1 year limited scope x-ray technician experience preferred

Licenses:
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required
  • Limited Scope X-ray Operator with the CDPHE

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to prioritize and perform a multitude of duties in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to promote positive customer service in a high-demand/high-volume environment, in every encounter.
  • Ability to learn and be proficient in electronic health record documentation.
  • Familiarization with medical equipment and instruments necessary to deliver patient care.
  • Utilize equipment and technology safely to provide patient care, upon completion of training and competency for applicable clinical area.
  • Ability to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
  • Adheres to Denver Health policies, mission, vision, and values.
  • Excellent telephone skills, critical analytical/investigative thinking skills, with an emphasis on exceptional customer service.
  • Knowledge of Urgent vs Emergent Care.
  • Familiarization with HIPAA, ensures confidentiality of patient information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, teammates, Physicians, providers and the public.
  • Ability to use critical analytical thinking skills to identify and solve problems.
