Writer/Editor Jobs

A well-known museum based in DC is looking to hire a writer/editor for a long-term contract. In this position, you will edit, and proofread a wide variety of marketing and promotional material for print and online channels that support the overarching marketing and communications strategy. You must be comfortable independently researching, interviewing, and collaborating with others to ensure the written products are engaging, effective, and optimized.

This position will have a hybrid office schedule. Candidates must be local to the DMV. All McKinley roles include a competitive benefits package.

Responsibilities

• Edit and proofread marketing and communications materials including but not limited to emails, articles, direct mail, invitations, flyers, brochures, advertisements, calendar listings, and other communications
• Copy edit text for social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn
• Works with others on the team, such as project management and audience engagement to ensure deadlines are met
• Produce pages on the website using a content management system (CMS)
• Draft copy for email, video, and print stories

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in applicable areas
• Sufficient knowledge of graphics and production standards and practices to ensure effective presentation of written and edited material
• Five+ years of experience in a journalism, fundraising, or marketing environment
• Ability to plan, organize, implement, and monitor multiple projects; manage time; achieve deadlines and recognize and respond to changing priorities and circumstances
• Working knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style (preferred) and/or other style guidelines
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while simultaneously collaborating with the creative team and receiving/incorporating feedback from project stakeholders
• Comprehensive conceptual, writing, and editing skills are needed to develop engaging, accurate, and high-quality content for both general and targeted audiences, including those unfamiliar
