Wellness/Fitness Director - Full Time Position (Exempt)

The Wellness Director is responsible for strategy, development, operations and evaluation of fitness and physical activities, maintaining the fitness rooms and equipment, assuring safety and cleanliness of all fitness facilities, and developing programs for residents and employees that align with the Physical element of the eight dimensions of Wellness. Areas of supervision will include the aerobics room, pool, and exercise room.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Organizes and implements progressive and safe exercise programs for residents and employees that are in line with the community’s physical dimension of wellness.
  • Plans physical activity events, instructs 75% of individual and group exercise programs, and monitors results.
  • Performs initial assessments and orientation sessions for residents who actively participate in the fitness programs and activities.
  • Measures resident participation in fitness programs and strive to increase participation by 25% annually.
  • Maintains resident files and assessments related to the wellness program and keeps an active resident roster of participants.
  • Prepares and maintains required reports, records, studies, and surveys.
  • Maintains confidentiality and appropriate safeguards on participant health records.
  • Provides education and assists residents with the use of the Croasdaile Village Wellness Portal including orientation to, assessment documentation, and report monitoring.
  • Ensures that fitness programs are advertised/communicated in a manner that reaches various communication pathways of the community’s residents and employees. Evaluates and adjusts communication methods based on participation levels.
  • Oversees and ensures operations of fitness and pool areas, maintains the fitness area including equipment service contracts, routine cleaning and equipment maintenance, daily records for environmental conditions and risk management of pools and exercise areas.
  • Orders necessary supplies and works with laundry team to ensure appropriate par levels for linens for the fitness and pool areas are maintained.
  • Directs and/or ensures all classes in the pool, spa, aerobics, and exercise room which may include water aerobics, land aerobics, stretching and toning, yoga, arthritic aquatics, relaxation, meditation, massage, etc.
  • Personally, leads aqua strength and aqua circuit classes for the resident population as determined by interest in the programs.
  • Directs and coordinates physical fitness presence in the higher levels of support at least three times a week.
  • Ensures all safety measures are followed in the entire wellness center.
  • Completes incident reports, as needed, for any known resident or employee injuries.
  • Oversees the maintenance of and works with Administration to plan for future exercise equipment.
  • Develops a collaboration system with physical therapy to supplement and make distinctions between the respective exercise programs.
  • Works with the Executive Director/Associate Executive Director to implement employee fitness programs.
  • Collaborates with the Communications Director and Wellness Committee for the development of the Wellness Newsletter distributed to residents.
  • Oversees and maintains the department’s annual budget.
  • Develops and manages connections with outside vendors to promote specialty training classes as requested by the residents in the community.
  • Collaborates with the community’s social departments (Navigation, Life Enrichment, Dining, and Chaplaincy) to create a holistic approach to Wellness as outlined in the community’s vision statement.
  • Directs the health education opportunities through annual health fairs, monthly nutrition and fitness classes, and other events.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Enjoys working with older adults.
  • College degree in exercise physiology, physical education, or experience in a related field preferred.
  • Water Safety Instructor Certification and Certified Pool Operators Certification preferred.
  • Participate in professional growth and development activities and various continuing education programs as needed.
  • Fitness certification with ACE, AFAA, or other recognized fitness organizations preferred.
  • Must be able to maintain a positive relationship with residents and staff.
  • Must be trained in use of exercise equipment and machinery.
  • Must be certified in CPR and first aid or be willing to be trained for certification.
  • Must have certified Basic Water Rescue/Lifeguard Training.
Administrative Functions:
Represents administration on the Resident Wellness Committee.
Actively participates in the Community Wellness Committee for residents.
Documents and reports all health-related incidents or problems to the Director of Social Services.
Ensures compliance with HIPAA rules and regulations.

WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm Some additional hours will be required to meet the business needs of the position.
