Job Description

We are looking for an experienced and entrepreneurial-minded VP/Head of Finance to evolve current systems, processes, and procedures to help Angel City grow on and off the field.

The VP/Head of Finance will set our financial strategy, guide long-term financial forecasting, planning, and budgeting, and will be charged with designing and delivering effective financial systems across the organization. The VP/Head of Finance will work alongside our executive leadership team and investors to support capital funding, infrastructure development and serve as an advocate for financial decisions that support the company's strategic goals.

As Angel City embarks upon its next phase of growth and development, the VP/Head of Finance will serve as a true strategic business partner, providing strong and accurate financial guidance to steer decisions. This is an ideal opportunity for a proven financial leader comfortable in high-paced, start-up environments who's excited to operate in a women's sports organization doing it differently. This person will have a track record of success from the past and be able to apply it to a high growth-oriented organization.

Responsibilities

Strategic Financial Management

  • Evaluate and set processes and procedures for monthly/quarterly forecasts, corporate planning, and budgeting process.
  • Ensure month, and year-end general ledger is accurate and closed in a timely manner in compliance with US GAAP.
  • Create multi-year, multi-variable financial models and pro forma financial statements
  • Be an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the corporation may enter
  • Drive the company's strategic plan and financial planning
  • Optimize cash flows to ensure maximum effectiveness for the organization's operations
  • Provide timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports, and financial trends to assist the CEO, founders, the Board, and other senior executives in performing their responsibilities
  • Continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting budgets
  • Provide strategic financial input and leadership on issues affecting the organization, i.e., evaluation of potential alliances, acquisitions, and/or mergers and investments

Risk Management and Corporate Governance

  • Serve as the executive liaison to the Board committee; effectively communicate and present critical financial matters at Board of Directors and committee meetings
  • Perform risk management by evaluating the organization's liabilities and investments; ensure legal & regulatory compliance is followed for all financial functions
  • Ensure cash flow is appropriate for the organization's operations
  • Refine and enforce compliance policies, procedures, and systems

Capital Management

  • Provide corporate governance to cross-functional partners in real estate procurement and expansion projects
  • Develop organization prospects by studying economic and industry trends and revenue opportunities
  • Establish a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operational needs
  • Control and evaluate the organization's fundraising plans and capital structure

Team Leadership and Development

  • Hire and build out a finance and accounting department based on the needs of the business

League Related

  • Training facility
  • Player's housing
  • Working with General Manager, ensure all player compensation paid by the league are accurate
  • Ensure all league payments (for fees and player's compensation) are accurate and paid promptly
  • Attending monthly meetings
  • Manage player and staff per diem travel requirements
  • Manage the ticket sale process, ensuring accurate accounting of all revenue
  • Stadium facility
  • Assist with all lease negotiations:
  • Be the main financial liaison between the Club and the League, including:
  • Provide requested financial information
  • Understand the player's Collective Bargaining Agreement to ensure all financial transactions are within these guidelines

Requirements

  • Collaborative approach to managing relationships at the executive level, and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams to meet goals and drive growth, impact, and organizational performance
  • Experience with Quickbooks and Xero
  • Personal qualities of integrity and ethics
  • Experience with cost-effective management of financial systems and platforms
  • Experience in finance for a multi-site organization
  • Experience and knowledge in risk management and evaluation
  • Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm under challenging circumstances
  • Bachelor's Degree; CPA and/or MBA preferred
  • Broad strategic financial experience, including success serving as a team leader, overseeing audit processes, and experience planning and managing budgets for a startup with operations in excess of $20 million per year
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to negotiate well
  • Excellent understanding of financial accounting, with proven success in creating financial models, managing reporting, and ensuring proper control and audit processes, preferably with an organization going through rapid growth
  • 8+ years' experience as a Director of Finance, VP of Finance, or Chief Financial Officer in a fast-paced, high-growth environment; prior experience at a sports or technology company is strongly preferred
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to identify and implement process improvements, system overhauls, and solutions to improve efficiency and effectiveness

Compensation

In addition to the benefits above, this role has a pay range between $150-$200k.

This pay range represents what we believe, in good faith, this role will pay. The final pay will depend on many factors, including years and depth of experience, level, and location of the employee. We only expect to pay the top of the range in rare and exceptional circumstances for candidates that far exceed the requirements and expectations of the position.
