VP Broadcast Operations


PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Vice President, Broadcast Operations is responsible for ensuring a smooth interface between editorial and technical operations 24/7 for MBN’s television production and broadcasts on all MBN channels; includes daily studio operations as well as live breaking news events.

SPECIFIC DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES

· Supports MBN’s editorial and programming leadership, contribute production operations support to deliver television production of the highest quality, in the most cost-effective and time-efficient manner possible.

· Operationally, coordinates live breaking news, planned news coverage and show production, including planning, departmental scheduling and coordinator of support groups. This includes MBN production within its facilities and on remotes.

· Works with other Production and Broadcast Operations departments, plans for studio operations improvements and helps resolve daily and long term operational issues. This may include interfacing with outside vendors.

· Creates and manages outside vendor relationships to support MBN production and broadcast operations, both onsite and remotely.

· Creates and manages financial budgets in areas of responsibility.

· Maximizes use of existing MBN production capacities and identifies opportunities for expanded production capacity.

· Based on research and personal experience, implement “best practices” workflow into MBN’s television production processes.

· Catalog best practices and workflows in applicable areas into MBN Standard Operating Procedures.

· Identifies and assess Production and Broadcast Operations training needs and opportunities.

· Contributes to the broadcast “disaster recovery” plan that provides for continuing MBN broadcast operations.

· Works with MBN counterparts in its Bureaus, coordinating production operational issues, both long-term and per production.

· Interfaces and works with counterparts at the USAGM and its entities on shared concerns.

· Strengthen relationships with industry colleagues.


QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

· Bachelor’s degree earned in related field, or comparable practical experience

· 10+ years in live television production at the network level or comparable

· In-depth understanding of the pre-production, production, and post-production television process

· Able to manage multiple projects/series simultaneously

· Able to prioritize within breaking news, live event coverage, news production and operations

· Strong coaching skills

· Ability to gather, communicate, and apply information and trends about the industry and emerging technologies, in order to further company goals

· Strong management, financial and negotiation skills

· Self-starter, takes initiative

· Proven strong leadership skills

· Direct and purposeful in all verbal and non-verbal communication

· Excellent writing and speaking skills

· Receptive to approachable by in any situation

· Organized and detail-oriented

· Approaches problems or roadblocks as opportunities for learning and creative thinking
