Job Summary - Vice President, Quality, Safety & Experience - Corewell Health East
Provides leadership for Quality, Safety and Experience at Corewell Health East (CHE). Oversight of quality improvement, infection prevention, public perception program performance, patient and team member safety, patient experience, and patient relations. Functions as leader of operations, working in direct partnership with SVP, QSE Corewell Health East. Oversees CHE QSE directors and works in partnership with clinical leaders, medical directors, nursing and medical staff. Provides the leadership necessary to achieve national best practice performance levels in quality, safety, and patient experience. Expected to distill the strategic vision of Corewell Health to a tactical plan that aligns with the operational teams to drive best. Works with operational partners and leaders on an annual basis to ensure implementation of an integrated improvement strategy, formally documented in the Integrated Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (I-QAPI) and Integrated Infection Prevention and Control Plan (I-IPCP) among others. Responsible for leading the CHE QSE team to enhance communication of cascading performance using data-driven discussions to create change at all levels of the organization. Expected to successfully navigate a highly matrixed and complex organization and effectively present problems and solutions in a persuasive and collaborative manner. Brings extensive systems experience in order to lead, influence, and inspire improvement in the listed domains above across Corewell Health East. Oversight of the fiscal management, resource allocation, policy and procedure development and interpretation, human resource development and performance improvement activities and research development and execution in this area.

Essential Functions - Vice President, Quality, Safety & Experience - Corewell Health East
  • Oversees CHE Patient Experience performance and the relationship with the vendor of choice. Works in partnership with the Senior Director, Integrated Data Analytic lead for QSE in facilitating the coordination of the data sources and the development of reports that are comprehensive and effective to assist leaders and physicians to drive change. Demonstrates exceptional experiences and builds accountability of kindness and respect to patients, families, visitors, consumers, staff, physicians and other customers. Plans, prepares, implements, monitors, and controls assigned.
  • Communicates, collaborates, networks with and acts as a consultant to key stakeholders in order to ensure continuity and coordination of services across the organization and appropriate utilization of resources. Maintains and develops local, regional, and national networks in healthcare management, operations and innovative practices to monitor consumer trends and effective strategies. Engages in a strategic environmental assessment within the healthcare industry and beyond regarding industry and consumer trends.
  • Develops partnerships and support for QSE throughout all of Corewell Health East. This is done through influence and partnering with key stakeholders throughout the System. Serves on key committees both within the organization and within the community. Is visible and accessible.
  • Oversees the Safety and Experience strategy for CHE. This is done in collaboration with other Directors in QSE. This is inclusive of the regional markets, hospitals, and CH East Medical Group. Uses influence to engage leadership throughout the system to execute on strategies.
  • Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
  • Collaborates with the SVP, Quality Safety and Experience, executives, medical directors, medical staff, administrative directors, and staff in other departments and professional groups to develop, implement, and evaluate programs, services, and operational plans that support the delivery of patient care, effective workforce development utilization, facilities development and enhancement, as well as equipment necessary to ensure safety and exceptional experiences for patients, families and others. Serves as a resource for all of Corewell Health East, providing strategy, support, and guidance on safety and experience and reducing suffering with a focus on colleagues, patients, and community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Oversees strategy, tactics, and operations related to key success measures of the following functional areas at Corewell Health East: Quality Improvement, Infection Prevention, Safety (Patient and Team member), Patient Experience, Patient Relations. Key attributes to effectively lead in this area are the ability to manage confidential matters related to provider and program performance and legal issues. The ability to master strategic thinking and using the skill of persuasion to influence others across the system. Participates with system staff and the hospital medical staff, nursing, and the care management department to implement clinical outcome measures for quality improvement, cost and complication reduction, benchmarking, and the implementation of evidence-based medicine.
  • Plans, prepares, implements, monitors, and controls assigned areas of operational capital budgets for complete budgeting of these strategies as well as the department.
  • Provides guidance and feedback to management, administrators and department heads on their application of quality concepts and safety principles. Implements problem solving tools and techniques. Collaborates with Corewell Health quality staff and other Corewell Health Hospitals to share tools and techniques developed at Corewell Health East.
  • Directly supports the Care Delivery QSE office as a care delivery level lead for Quality, Safety, and/or Patient Experience. Collaborates and partners with other regional leads as part of the Care Delivery QSE office in developing Quality, Safety and/or Patient Experience Strategy. Engages and supports in Care Delivery QSE activities as asked by the Chief QSE Officer.
  • Oversees department Directors and Teams and acts as a consultant to executive and director level peers regarding opportunities and challenges. May also act as a consultant with physician level interaction to ensure and support professional outcomes for the providers. This is done in conjunction with the physician leadership throughout the organization. Provides guidance and feedback to team facilitators and team leaders on skill development and team effectiveness. Participates in System-wide training courses on QSE-related topics. .
Qualifications - Vice President, Quality & Safety - Corewell Health East
  • Master’s degree or equivalent MBA or MPH required.
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent in healthcare quality improvement, patient safety and outcome reporting required.
  • 5 years of relevant experience working with nursing leaders and physicians from diverse backgrounds and perspectives in acute, ambulatory, chronic, and preventive care environments required.
  • 3 years of relevant experience in creation and execution of strategic business plans required.
  • 10 years of relevant experience in healthcare quality improvement, patient safety and outcome reporting required.
  • Experience in facilitating effective, collaborative work teams involving individuals of diverse backgrounds required.
  • Leadership experience in the formation of highly productive and collaborative relationships with multi-disciplinary teams, physicians and other healthcare providers required.
  • 5 years of relevant experience in leadership role in a healthcare environment required.
