Position Objective:

The Vice President of Quality and Patient Safety is a key member of the Luminis Health executive leadership team. The Vice President (VP) is responsible for the system-wide function of quality (which includes patient safety, infection control, patient experience, performance improvement, and accreditation services for all entities of Luminis Health. The VP works with the executive team, service line leadership, as well as medical staff leaders and all quality committees to include the Luminis Health’s Board Quality, Patient Safety and Workforce committee to set strategic priorities, assess operations to ensure compliance, and guide the implementation of improvements in the above stated functions.

Participates at the operations level with the Luminis Health leadership and contributes to the development of the System's mission, strategic plans, budgets, resource allocation, operational plans and policies.

Ensures the achievement of short- and long-range goals and implementation of basic operational strategies within the framework provided by the President of Luminis Health Doctors Community Medical Center. The VP is accountable for leading the development, assessment, monitoring, and evaluation of all activities in these functional areas to support Luminis Health’s strategic vision, growth initiatives and leadership principles.

Essential Job Duties:

1. Based on Luminis Health’s long-term vision & strategic plan, as well as the annual operating plan, and in collaboration with the board and executive leadership, sets the vision, direction and priorities for all functions mentioned above system wide.

2. Works collaboratively with system CEO, entity presidents, CMOs, chairs, service line leaders and other executive and medical staff leaders to develop and execute an integrated portfolio of health system interventions/programs across the continuum of care, from prevention and health

promotion to high-risk and chronic care management.

3. Serves as an internal subject matter expert and an external spokesperson on quality and patient safety, educating employees, providers, business leaders, government officials and other key stakeholders.

4. Develops system-wide and entity specific programs, standards, service expectations and metrics to monitor progress and guide improvement efforts.

5. Guides the development of reports and analytics to measure effectiveness of existing programs and development of potential new interventions and programs.

6. Develops the organization's patient safety focus and drives a culture of patient safety and high reliability.

7. Guides the Board of Directors, executive leadership, and medical staff leadership in setting

priorities for organizational-wide improvement activities designed to improve quality of care,

patient safety, and operational efficiencies.

8. Assesses and allocates adequate resources to achieve quality care, patient safety, and operational effectiveness throughout the organization.

9. Drives improvements and results in all areas of responsibility, leveraging key metrics to ensure accountability, ensuring that goals and contract deliverables are met or exceeded.

10. Provides leadership and oversight to direct reports, organizing and directing talent and resources to deliver results and achieve strategic goals, while establishing/maintaining a collaborative and value-driven team culture.

11. Actively promotes and supports professional development of direct reports and other members of the team reporting up to this position.

12. Responsible for guiding the strategic focus, as well as the production of reports for the Board,

Quality Councils, Patient Safety Committees, MECs and any additional internal and external

committees and reports as required.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • Proven experience and success with development and implementation of quality, patient safety, infection control, patient experience and accreditation/regulatory programs.
  • Ten or more years of progressive healthcare experience, preferably in an integrated healthcare system.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Clinical background strongly preferred.
  • Masters in health care administration or a related field
  • Requires exceptional combination of interpersonal expertise, clinical knowledge, innovation, leadership, management, business acumen, vision and tenacity.

Required License/Certifications:

  • Certified Professional in Health Care Quality preferred and current state RN license Preferred.

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:

There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will not be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

Physical Demands -

Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
