As Vice President of Human Resources at CandleScience, you will work with all levels of the CandleScience organization to collaborate, develop and implement various objectives, strategies, plans and policies for the company. We are looking for someone who is dedicated to continuous improvement for the department and organization as a whole. You will be entrusted with leading and directing our HR Team, and supporting all levels of employees in our locations in both Durham, NC and Sparks, NV.

Responsibilities:
  • Support employees when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise
  • Recommend, develop and implement approved programs and policies designed to protect company and employee interests in accordance with company HR policies and governmental laws and regulations, including updating and revising the Employee Handbook and other employee-centric publications
  • Create an environment of positive employee relations by respecting confidentiality, establishing trust and credibility, being seen by employees as approachable and fair, while balancing business needs with employee needs
  • Collaborate and strategize with management, legal, and executive team leaders to deliver solutions in support of business initiatives and goals, while maintaining and improving our unique company culture
  • Identify and/or create learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.
  • Supervise and develop professional growth of Human Resources team members
  • Coordinate and manage recruiting activities, interviewing, onboarding and Performance Reviews
  • Coach company leadership on handling complex, escalated employee relations issues including progressive discipline and proper compliance with employment laws (EEO, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Harassment, etc.)
  • Assist employees located at multiple facilities with day-to-day questions in regard to payroll, benefits, leaves of absence, PTO, etc.
Requirements
  • Exception ability to influence and implement change management while maintaining positive employee relations, employee engagement, and a respectful and safe working environment
  • HR Certification (PHR/SPHR or SHRM CP/SCP) preferred
  • Proficient in HRIS tools and other application systems (preferred: UKG, Trello, Google Workspace)
  • Bachelors or Associates degree preferred
  • Ability to work in a highly dynamic and ambiguous environment
  • Effective in interpersonal communications, leadership, and conflict resolution
  • 5+ years Human Resource experience, including at least 2 years' experience in a primary Business Partner/Human Resources Manager role
  • Effective communicator with strong relationship building skills at every level from Hourly Employees to Executive Level Leadership
  • Knowledge of applicable state, federal, local employment/labor laws and regulations
  • Strong writing, presentation, data analysis, and reporting skills
  • Proven track record in creating and implementing Human Resources policies
