SparkCharge is currently seeking an experienced Vice President Government Affairs. This position is responsible for managing government affairs initiatives for the organization. You will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to engage with government entities at the local, state, and federal levels.
The VP Government Affairs works closely with internal and external stakeholders, such as Federal, State and local government officials, policymakers, industry associations, and other relevant stakeholders, to advocate for the organization's interests and promote its objectives. This role requires a strong understanding of the Federal & State government processes, policies, and regulations, as well as excellent communication, advocacy, and project management skills. You will also be responsible for securing grants and funding for SparkCharge through available programs.

SparkCharge is a fast-growing cleantech start-up that is reducing barriers to Electric Vehicle (EV) adoption. We design, manufacture, and sell portable, Level III charging systems for EVs. We also provide “Charging-as-a-Service” (CaaS) through our mobile app “Currently”, which allows EV owners to schedule charge delivery to wherever their vehicle is located. Responsibilities:
- Advocacy Campaigns: Develop and execute advocacy campaigns to support the organization's government affairs objectives. This includes developing messaging, drafting advocacy materials, coordinating grassroots efforts, and organizing events and activities to promote the organization's positions and influence public policy.
- Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies related to government affairs activities. Maintain accurate records of government affairs activities, including expenditures, lobbying reports, and other required documentation. Prepare regular reports on government affairs activities and outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.
- Government Affairs Strategy: Develop and implement government affairs strategies and initiatives that align with the organization's goals and objectives. Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments that may impact the organization and recommend appropriate actions.
- Internal Collaboration: Collaborate with internal departments, including legal, communications, and other relevant teams, to align government affairs strategies with broader organizational goals and initiatives. Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders on government affairs matters and ensure coordination and consistency in advocacy efforts across the organization.
- Policy Research and Analysis: Conduct research and analysis on legislative and regulatory proposals, as well as other relevant policy issues, to assess their impact on the organization and develop informed positions. Prepare written reports, briefings, and other materials to support the organization's advocacy efforts.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with government officials, policymakers, industry associations, and other relevant stakeholders to advocate for the organization's interests. Represent the organization in meetings, hearings, and other forums, and effectively communicate the organization's positions on relevant issues.
- Government Affairs Team: Build your own team from scratch! You get to hire, develop and curate the best-in-class Government Affairs team, coordinating with various partners, consultants, advisors to focus on writing and securing grants and actively pursue and gain various funding opportunities.
Requirements:
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Familiarity with relevant industry or issue-specific knowledge, such as healthcare, energy, transportation, or technology, is a plus.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with government officials, policymakers, industry associations, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and compliance requirements related to government affairs activities.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and executing government affairs strategies, initiatives, and campaigns.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong research, analysis, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Strong knowledge of government processes, policies, and regulations at the local, state, and federal levels.
- Extremely comfortable working in a fast paced, start-up environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a task-oriented mindset.
- Ability to work with and communicate across cross-functional teams.
- Passionate about electric transportation and the environment.
- Adept with Microsoft Office suite including Word and Excel.
- Extremely well organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, lobbying or related roles, preferably in the EV industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, government affairs or related field.
- Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Project management skills, including planning, organizing, and coordinating complex projects and initiatives.
