What We Do

In the role of the UX Researcher, you will contribute to qualitative and quantitative research functions by conducting research that helps inform each stage of the product development lifecycle to drive cross-functional decision-making with mountains of data-driven evidence.

The Underwriting Innovation Team is looking for a user experience researcher to help accelerate our digital transformation. We hire people with range, who know how to bring innovation to life by facilitating the design and development of intuitive, user-centered software solutions. In this cutting-edge role, you’ll help senior leadership drive the UX transformation of what is presently a complex, lawyerly, paper-based insurance experience.

Our team brings together researchers, designers, engineers, lawyers, and business stakeholders into an empowered, cross-functional, durable product squad that delivers best-in-industry digital products. And we’re a team that takes calculated risks, so to us, skillset and mindset are far more important than years of experience.

We know that innovation only happens when diverse perspectives come together to spot opportunities that others can’t see. We expressly seek diversity in all its forms, including life experiences, educational backgrounds, identities, cultures, work experiences, and all other forms. Please be prepared to share with us how your perspective will bring something unique and valuable to our team.

What You'll Do

  • Select how to invest your time and guide the team on which research tradeoffs are acceptable given the business question and timelines.
  • Required to perform duties outside of normal work hours based on business needs.
  • Adapt methods to the research question at hand using a range of methods, weave together qualitative and quantitative insights for data and empathy-informed understanding.
  • Work closely with product team members, as well as other researchers, to identify important research questions that address both user behavior and attitudes, using the appropriate methodology.
  • Competence in key quantitative methodologies, e.g., card sorting and surveys.
  • Generate insights that shape how product teams think about medium and long-term product strategy.
  • Ability to translate business questions to key research objectives, leveraging the best methodology to execute research, to synthesize and analyze findings.
  • Design and execute end-to-end custom primary research using a wide variety of quantitative methods, and interpret analysis through the lens of business impact, UX, HCI, and social science.
  • Competence in key qualitative methodologies, e.g., semi-structured interviews and contextual inquiry.
  • Effectively manage and prioritize research plans through ambiguous and fast-changing environments.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently with stakeholders to execute critical insights that align with the business top needs and timelines.
  • Ability to explain metric analysis and analytical decisions clearly and persuasively to a variety of audiences.

What You'll Bring

  • Experience in outcome-based delivery being business and solution focused.
  • Proven fluency in a wide array of mixed-method research methodologies.
  • BA/BS in Computer Science with a focus on Human Computer Interaction and or Design
  • Certification in Design Thinking valued.
  • 4+ years of experience conducting product research, user experience (UX) research, or research in an applied setting.
  • Experience with personas, empathy mapping, road-mapping and other user experience methodologies.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in order to define business and technical parameters.
  • MS/Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Information Science, Experimental Psychology, or a related field preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management, negotiation, and collaboration skills.
  • Solid understanding of Design Thinking, Agile, Lean, and DevOps Principles.
  • Experience in consumer-facing technologies highly valued.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and respond quickly to emergent problems.
