We are seeking two User Support Specialists to join our Office of Finance, Information, and Technology at the
Oregon Department of Education

This position is located in the Operations & Support Unit within the Office of Finance and Information Technology (OFIT). The Operations & Support Unit’s primary focus is meet ODE’s technology needs in support of the ODE mission to foster excellence for every learner through innovation, collaboration, leadership and service to our education partners.
What you will do!

As our User Support Specialist, you will be working directly with our staff to understand and resolve ODE hardware, software, and application issues. You will also be providing assistance with operations and implementation of computer systems and expected to deliver exceptional customer service to all clients.
Typical Duties Include:
  • Designing and maintaining training materials and system/application user manuals. Staying up to date on new information and technology applications design to improve efficiency of network operations throughout the agency
  • Working under guidance of higher level staff when necessary. Constructing documentation for distribution to fellow team members for use in problem resolution.
  • Providing mid to high level User Support to resolve hardware, software, and application problems received by employees of ODE and ELD via telephone, email, or in person.
  • Configuring, installing, and troubleshooting problems. Supporting desktops and printers in multiple locations. Maintaining network servers and attached peripherals for LAN systems
  • Signing into phones and emails to enter into help desk information tracking system(s), resolving all issues and prioritize tickets, especially when travel is involved to different locations
  • Maintaining and documenting tickets in a standardized ticket tracking system. Managing tickets escalated from tier 1 and 2 technicians. Coordinating communications necessary to ensure timely resolution of issues.

What you need to qualify

Three (3) years of information systems experience in: troubleshooting computer and network issues and providing desktop support

OR
An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field OR Completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field AND One (1) year of information systems experience in: troubleshooting computer and network problems and providing desktop support;

  • Ability to approach problems logically and systematically
  • Experience troubleshooting computer equipment and/or software
  • Ability to communicate complex technological information in a manner that non-technical personnel can understand and comprehend.
  • Experience scheduling multiple tasks with multiple users, and delivering results within demanding time constraints
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Word, Outlook, Skype, Teams Active Directory, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Products
  • Experience providing customer support via call center, email, and in-person
