About this role


The Investment Grade Private Debt team manages a group of portfolios of totaling approximately $15 billion of privately placed debt for a growing group of BlackRock insurance company clients. The team sources, underwrites and manages positions in the portfolios in conjunction with the BLK Financial Institutions Group.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Deal assessment and execution: working with the team to assess and execute Investment Grade Private Credit investments. This will include conducting due diligence, facilitating private asset risk screening and other compliance approvals required for the transaction, modeling portfolio allocations, and coordinating with external and internal parties to ensure smooth deal settlement
  • Market research: follow industry updates and developing themes, research on potential investments
  • Credit monitoring: tracking quarterly earnings and following news/ updates on existing portfolio companies
  • Client relationship management: coordinating with client relationship managers and product strategists on answering client inquiries and preparing client presentation materials
  • Portfolio management: assist in the management of investments in the portfolio, utilizing Aladdin platform to produce regular portfolio reports; manage internal rating, watchlist and amendment status; monitor portfolio cash positions; work across back office teams to ensure a smooth operational experience for both internal and external clients
Knowledge / Experience:


  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently and with minimal guidance, knowing when to raise issues as appropriate. Must be able to work as part of a collaborative team, and assume additional responsibilities as required
  • Strong understanding of operational and investment processes
  • Experience in Corporate Bonds is desirable but not a requirement.
  • Able to manage workload effectively and deliver quality work on schedule
  • A good understanding of accounting and/or leveraged finance / project finance modeling
  • Sound analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to summarize issues and think creatively
  • Highly numerate with developed quantitative capabilities
  • Experience with Aladdin portfolio management and trading tools is a strong plus
  • The ability to build and maintain successful relationships with colleagues across the firm and with external parties
  • Deep knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word); very strong Excel skills are required
  • A keen interest in private credit investment
  • An undergraduate with a degree in finance, economics, accounting, or business
For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $142,500 - $170,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
