Job Description

Please note our current hiring is limited to Michigan and Texas as most of our teams are based in these locations.

Who we are

flockx is a startup with the goal of fostering community building through local groups, real-life events, and shared interests in your hometown or while traveling. Our aim is to facilitate the joining of local communities on a worldwide level by providing real-time information on activities in your area, assisting you in discovering meaningful places, and creating lasting memories.

We provide a platform for discovering live music performances, locating where sports fans are gathering after the game, or discovering real-world activities and events in any given area. In addition, our platform allows you to directly connect with people who share similar interests, enabling you to create authentic connections in real life that hold significance to you.

Role Summary

As a Mobile UI/UX Designer, your role will be within the Mobile App team, a cross-functional group dedicated to helping individuals find where their community is at in real-time, connect with like-minded people and discover hidden gems. This is achieved through the ongoing development of our mobile application, focusing on user experiences and journeys, iterative development and delivering value.

We're seeking an individual who is an independent thinker, goal-driven, and willing to explore unconventional approaches. The ideal candidate should also prioritize accountability and responsibility, working collaboratively within a team while maintaining individual autonomy.

They should approach problem-solving in a systematic and iterative way, focusing on experimentation to arrive at effective solutions. Additionally, the candidate should possess a high level of motivation to contribute to a cross-functional team.

Questions The Team Wakes Up to Answer

  • How can we improve the user experience/journey to help the user get to the AHA moment within 15 seconds of using the app?

  • How can we create a sense of community in the app, encouraging individuals to want to contribute?

  • How can we best communicate the value proposition of the app in the app stores and marketing campaigns so that people say - "I need that!"?

  • How do we find a balance between moving fast and robust engineering without impacting the user experience or going through lengthy development cycles?

  • How can we make use of the data being captured by existing users to inform the improvements and new features that need to be made for the app?

  • Embodies culture values and team principles, setting an example for the team.
  • Makes data driven decisions, especially when building and analyzing experiments
  • Motivated self-starter who thrives in unstructured environments
  • Is able to act autonomously (with little to no direction) in and out of team sessions in ways that help the team grow and move the needle rapidly towards the objectives.
  • Is able to collaborate with the team on content, messaging, value propositions, marketing campaigns etc; ensuring alignment, building of processes and delivering value to all stakeholders and community members.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop low fidelity to pixel perfect designs with a great attention to detail
  • Ability to craft user journeys that deliver value to users
  • Testing UI elements such as CTAs, banners, page layouts, page designs, page flows, and target links for landing pages.
  • Adhering to style standards on typography and graphic design.
  • Providing advice and guidance on the implementation of UX research methodologies and testing activities in order to analyze and predict user behavior.
  • Developing and conceptualizing a comprehensive UI/UX design strategy for the brand.
  • Collaborating with the other teams and guilds, to ensure the creation and delivery of tailored experiences for the digital user.
  • Investigating user experience design requirements for our suite of digital assets.
  • Producing high-quality UX design solutions through wireframes, visual and graphic designs, flow diagrams, storyboards, site maps, and prototypes.
  • Designing UI elements and tools such as navigation menus, search boxes, tabs, and widgets for our digital assets.

Must have experience/skills

  • Working knowledge of the following technologies and software: Figma, Sketch, InVision, Visio, HTML, CSS (SCSS), iOS, Design Systems, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • A minimum of 2 years of UI/UX design experience in digital products or services.
  • Solid understanding and prototyping skills in Figma
  • You are data-driven, and use research, user testing and analytics to make informed design decisions.
  • A portfolio of professional UI/UX design work for both web and mobile platforms.
  • You have experience in end-to-end design, from brainstorming to delivery, and enjoy working collaboratively with teams to create user-centric solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • You have skills in visual interface design, with an understanding of typography, iconography, color theory, illustration, and visual design systems. Additionally, you have experience in cross-platform product design, developing mobile applications for both iOS.
  • Familiarity with UX best practices.

Must have soft skills

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with various stakeholders within the team
  • Ability to handle working on multiple projects at the same time and can work through deadline pressures.
  • Interpersonal skills to work with a wide variety of people each day, build trusted working relationships across multiple functional boundaries
  • Self-starter with strong time management skills and the ability to be self-directed.
  • An understanding of what makes an experience good or bad is critical; the ability to think through user problems translates into reasonable solution designs.
  • Customer experience skills to listen to the concerns of a customer, champion them and be able to work with team members to resolve their issues
  • You value feedback, allowing you to explain your design decisions and collaborate with your team.
  • A team player but can work independently too.
