Big R is looking for an experienced and dependable truck driver to join our team for our Northern Region. This position will require the truck driver to haul trailers from our distribution center in Pueblo, CO, to Big R stores in Colorado Springs, CO and north. The truck driver will also be responsible for safely and efficiently driving a large commercial vehicle for long distances for extended hours to deliver cargo, parking in appropriate docks, tracking mileage, and manifests. All safety regulations and standards regarding size, weight, and break periods must be followed. The ideal candidate already has their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and has previous training in operating and driving.
Truck Driver Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain vehicle equipment.
- Maneuver trucks and cargo into a variety of parking spaces and loading docks.
- Inspect truck daily for damage or maintenance problems (tire wear, dents, etc.)
- Supervise loading and unloading of cargo off truck. · Ensure that gates are locked at the end of the day if coming in after hours.
- Complete documentation for mileage and cargo.
- Daily communication with Logistics Manager on route schedule
- Practice safe, long-distance driving habits.
- Refuel vehicle and check/replace oil as needed.
- Keep track of mileage, fuel, and toll expenses.
- Plan routes to meet delivery schedules.
- Follow all state and national safety heavy truck regulations and standards.
- Report any accidents or vehicle issues encountered while driving to supervisors.
- Expectations of the position should be Monday-Friday with an occasional weekend and/or holiday.
- Ensure cargo is secured.
- Keep the interior of vehicle clean of debris and clutter.
- Clean windows, windshields, and mirrors as needed.
- Accurately follow maps and directions for time efficient routes.
Truck Driver Requirements and Qualifications
- Self-motivated and the ability to stay on schedule with little supervision.
- Must have a clean driving record with no recent moving violations. · Proficient at driving, maneuvering, and parking large vehicles.
- The candidate should be dependable, hardworking and an effective communicator.
- Must have a valid and current Commercial Driver's License (CDL) class A to operate a large vehicle.
- Must be proficient in hauling 53’ dry van trailers.
- Able to work weekends, extended hours, and holidays as needed.
- Physically fit and able to sit for long time periods, perform truck maintenance, lift 25 pounds comfortably.
- Excellent time-management and organizational skills required.
- Two (2) years' previous professional driving experience or related experience is recommended, minimum of (1) year.
