Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Theater, Theater Production or related field is required; supplemented by three years of experience in theater production, theater management, or box office management and two years supervision; and or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to manage and coordinate productions and special events at the Southwest Arts Center performance venues, including supervising production staff, managing facilities and executing contracts.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff: develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; compiles and reviews timesheets; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; directs work; acts as a liaison between employees and management; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.
Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; prioritizes and schedules work activities in order to meet objectives; ensures that subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management; and assists with the revision of procedure manuals as appropriate.
Manages pre-production and pre-event activities: coordinates and maintains venue schedule; books venues; executes contracts; schedules and facilitates production meetings; determines resources needed for each production and event; supervises rehearsals; oversees construction and load-in of scenery, costumes, lighting, sound, etc.
Manages productions and events; serves as venue representative during functions; monitors activities to ensure safety and smooth operation of staff and facilities; troubleshoots questions and problems during productions and events; makes recommendations for resolutions; responds to emergencies, accidents and injuries during events; completes and distributes related documentation.
Manages post-production and post-event activities; oversees strike and load-out of scenery, costumes, lighting, sound, etc.; conducts follow up activities as needed.
Manages and coordinates maintenance of theater buildings, systems, and equipment, which may include general building maintenance, set construction, mechanical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, lighting, electrical, sound or other systems and equipment.
Performs general customer service and administrative duties; greets and assists customers; receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints; conducts tours; attends meetings; answers the telephone; prepares reports and correspondence; copies and files documents; enters computer data, etc.
Monitors inventory of equipment, tools, and other materials to ensure availability of adequate materials to conduct work activities; initiates orders for new or replacement materials; maintains inventory records.
Assists in implementing the budget for department; monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budgets.
Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures: receives and reviews various documentation, including date hold applications and invoices; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation, including work schedules, budget documentation, contracts, and attendance records ; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments: operates and maintains light board, sound board, genie lift, communications systems and other power or motorized equipment; operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, Internet, e- mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
Communicates with supervisor, other employees, producers, third party service contractors, laborers, the public and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.
