Hiring: Tenant Support Coordinator
About The Tenant Support Coordinator Position
Full-time
Non-exempt
Deadline: Rolling
The Tenant Support Coordinator works with tenants to discuss and find action steps to address landlord-tenant disputes, landlord accountability, and unsafe housing conditions through coordinating a tenant hotline and providing trainings.
The Tenant Support Coordinator implements and runs the tenant hotline, including recruitment and training of volunteers and volunteer support. The Tenant Support Coordinator works closely with Organizing, PUSH Green, Sustainability, Policy and Strategy and Sustainability departments to connect tenants to active campaigns and resources.
Duties and Responsibilities
Volunteer Development
  • Recruit and train volunteers to operate the hotline, accompany tenants to court, and work directly with tenants using a trauma informed framework.
  • Manage and coach hotline volunteers.
Program Coordination
  • Create and/or collaborate on relevant political education and skills training for tenants and volunteers to move them to join campaign teams and take meaningful action with the organization.
  • Track issue trends that emerge from tenant trainings and the hotline to help inform campaigns and ensure local and state elected officials are aware of tenant issues.
  • Table at key locations throughout the city with tenant rights materials and hotline information.
  • Coordinate Know Your Rights trainings for tenants throughout the city.
Management & Administration
  • Partner with internal departments and team members to integrate the services provided by PUSH creating a reciprocal relationship between organizing, services and policy development/implementation.
  • Develop written and regularly updated work plans for hotline and other tenant support programming.
  • Track all meetings, members, hotline calls, and other information in Salesforce.
Coalition Work
  • Represent PUSH Buffalo in local, state, and national coalitions and other partnership spaces that are focused on tenant issues and resources for tenants and that support and/or advance our mission, vision and values.
Other
  • Work directly with the Director of Organizing, Organizer with concentration in Housing Justice, and other PUSH staff to document and shift our work to be inclusive of the intersections between climate and housing justice, service provision and organizing and the other unique dynamics of PUSH’s work.
  • Assist with relevant grants, budgeting, and other necessary reporting.
  • Work with the Director of Organizing and others in PUSH to organize and facilitate organization-wide events, meetings, campaigns, trainings, etc.
  • Speak on behalf of the organization to the press/media, with supervisor approval and as needed.
  • Complete yearly goal setting and monthly work plans that are reflective of current, future and emerging work, needs and vision.
The Ideal Candidate For This Position Will Have
  • Willing to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary.

  • A proactive, creative, and flexible attitude.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Two (2) years of experience with community organizing.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of grassroots community organizing, housing, economic and climate justice.
  • General knowledge of housing policy, housing history and the network of housing funders, organizers and other players.
  • Prior experience supervising two (2) or more staff/interns.
  • At least three (3) years of working in a non-profit organization.
  • Strong Excel, Word, VAN and Salesforce skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with community members, ally organizations and coalition partners, elected officials, funders, and employees.
The salary range for this full-time, non-exempt position is (based on experience and education):
$19.00-24.00 per hour
