Robotics & Digital Solutions, part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, is recruiting for a Systems Integration Engineer, located in Santa Clara, CA.
Robotics and Digital Solutions, is part of Johnson & Johnson Med Tech. At Johnson & Johnson Robotics and Digital Solutions, we’re changing the trajectory of health for humanity, using robotics to enhance healthcare providers’ abilities and improve patients’ diagnoses, treatments, and recovery times. Johnson & Johnson Robotics was established in 2020 with the integration of Auris Health, Verb Surgical, C-SATS, and Ethicon. It comprises three key med-tech platforms: Flexible Robotics (MONARCH®), Surgical Robotics (OTTAVA™), and Digital Solutions. Join our collaborative, rapidly growing teams in the San Francisco Bay Area (Redwood City and Santa Clara), Cincinnati, and Seattle. You’ll collaborate on breakthrough medical technologies that unite multiple subject areas to build a connected digital ecosystem that advances medical professionals’ skills and improves patient outcomes.
As an R&D Systems Integration Engineer, you will apply a broad variety of engineering subject areas to integrate, maintain, and improve the Johnson & Johnson OTTAVA Robotic System. This cross-functional role lies at the intersection of hardware, software, robotics, operations, and clinical engineering. This individual will also support test design and execution including calibration, characterization, and engineering testing in coordination with the various technical teams of the OTTAVA System. Applicants should have experience working with complex mechatronic systems, but do not need to have a technical background in med-tech or robotics. This is a phenomenal opportunity for someone with an interest in robotics to gain deep technical and medical industry knowledge, while providing a critical service to the OTTAVA program!
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify, root cause, and resolve novel issues that arise across the R&D systems by working across mechanical, electrical, software, robotic controls, and clinical teams.
- Characterize and de-risk the design from prototype to subsystem level, analyze test results and provide meaningful insights or conclusions.
- Drive continuous improvement in integration activities and processes such as testing, calibration, issue handling, system upgrades and feature roll-out, design feedback, etc.
- Integrate prototype systems/subsystems across multi-functional subject areas.
- Implement, evaluate, and demonstrate HW/SW proof of concept.
- Support clinical and human factors teams to test new features in simulation and implement in labs.
- Support development of test methods and fixtures for system/subsystem integration, test, calibration, and transfer to manufacturing.
Qualifications
Required
- Fundamental understanding across software, controls, robotics, mechanical, and electrical engineering. Depth in one or more of the above subject areas, with ability to quickly come up to speed in new technical areas.
- Experience partitioning and decomposing sophisticated engineering problems into solvable problems.
- Excellent self-starter with a can-do demeanor
- BS Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science or other applicable technical degree) with 2+ years of industry experience or MS Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science or other applicable technical degree) with 1+ years of industry experience
- Proven understanding of programming concepts and ability to modify existing code (C++, python, etc.)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred
- Understanding of engineering concepts such as system architecture, implementation, testing, and maintenance.
- Hands-on experience with electromechanical or robotic systems.
