Job Description
The Supply Chain Manager is responsible for developing and implementing the sourcing and inventory management and control strategy. Drive key metrics which include: Productivity and Cost Management, Working Capital Improvements, Lead Time, Service Level, and Quality. Work in a cross-functional team environments and provide support to various teams to deliver on the goals and metrics of Guardiar. This person will lead a team that has responsibility for production scheduling, planning, buying, sourcing and material handling. This role will make sure process are followed and continually look for process improvement to ensure the efficient handling of inventory and material in support of delivery product to customer demand.

Essential Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Supply Chain Strategy
  1. Enhance order to cash process based on business requirements.
  2. Support strategic initiatives (system upgrades, acquisitions, corporate alliances etc.)
  3. Stay current with the latest production trends, best practices, and technology.

Transportation Management
  1. Coordinate shipping based on customer due dates.
  2. Maximize freight loads to manage costs.

Production Materials Management and Control
  • Conducts cycle counts and actively researches and provides corrective action for inventory issues
  • Set up and management of point of use systems and the reconciliation of activities between systems
  • Manages inventory availability using Kanbans
  • Implements continuous improvement ideas to improve material availability
  • Assure inventory is stored in a safe and efficient manner
Inventory Management and Control
  • Develop and maintain accurate written procedures for all main inventory control processes and functions.
  • Manages production schedules to ensure sufficient inventory exists to meet customer demand.
  • Develops, oversees and maintains inventory processes such as cycle count, Kanban system and Point of Use, and inventory reconciliation processes in our ERP.
  • Responsible for integrity and accuracy while performing cyclic inventory audits and annual inventory counts.
  • Analyzes data (demand/capacity inventory) to make recommendations to Plant leadership team and highlight any shortcomings.
  • Creates and maintains databases, reports, inventory related accuracy and performance scorecards including ad hoc analysis as required.
  • Implement improvement processes and systems to reduce inventory, minimize costs and maximize working capital.
  • Generates monthly capacity and weekly supply plans for manufacturing and supply chain.
  • Schedules key production processes.
  • Trains company associates on inventory control and transactional accuracy
  • Minimize overstocks and removal of obsolete / redundant products to maximize availability of working capital.
  • Maintains and publishes metrics around inventory accuracy
  • Participates in demand/allocation management process.
  • Monitors and reports out inventory levels both weekly (tactical) and monthly (capacity).
  • Manages the inventory levels and control replenishment, and stocking levels, determining optimum ordering levels of materials maintained as inventory.
  • Interacts with plant operations, engineering, development and commercial teams.
Sourcing
  • Develop knowledge of new Domestic and International markets in order to identify new sources of supply
  • Contract life-cycle management with preferred suppliers
  • Research, identify, and qualify best value sources of supply
  • Drive suppliers for reduced lead times
  • Coordinate with the supply chain department to ensure that suppliers adhere to the required delivery schedules. Take appropriate actions to maintain on-time deliveries of approved materials
  • Rationalize the supplier base through the solicitation of competitive bids
  • Responsible for managing the buying process and associated ERP transactions
  • Develops strategy for 3rd party outsource providers (galvanization, welding, etc.) to enable flexible capacity to meet customer demand.
  • Develop and manage the relationships with preferred suppliers
  • Develop and administer a supplier quality program for key suppliers
  • Set up and maintain vendor master data including accurate costing information in ERP and administer ERP requirements

Employee Relations/Development
  • Ensures proper staffing and supports hiring for all facility operations.
  • Assists in projects as needed by the Plant Operations Manager
  • Provides regular coaching and feedback on performance, prepares and presents formal performance appraisals and make recommendations and approve annual compensation increases.
  • Plays an active role in employee development and talent selection.
  • Ensures the daily pre-shift meetings cover previous productivity, operational problems, forecasting workload and any other pertinent company information.
  • Works with the Operations Manager and Human Resources to resolve employee relation issues, discipline actions, problem resolution and terminations.
  • Provides training for Inventory Control team members and ongoing training to educate staff
  • Ensures all new employees are properly on-boarded; completing required paperwork and following a structured training schedule.
  • Produces and effectively communicate department goals and individual performance goals that ensure the facility achieves operational success.
  • Manages and maintains good human resources practices with direct reports, and adherence to established corporate and department policies and procedures

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong talent management and team building skills – must be able to assess talent, develop talent and create an atmosphere of mutual respect and collaboration
  • Knowledge of Sourcing, global component and commodity supply chain and/or management processes and procedures
  • MRP/ERP system proficiency- SAP is a must. IFS a plus.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills both verbally and written Strong organizational, leadership, project management and problem-solving skills, works autonomously and takes ownership of work
  • Strong analytical ability – must be able to synthesize data, be able to error check and reconcile own work and be able to design analysis to answer specific questions and provide actionable insights.

  • Computer skills – working knowledge of MS Office applications

  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies and cost-reduction strategies
Education/Experience:
  • APICS certification preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 10+ years of experience in supply chain operation with a minimum of 5 years of inventory management and production operation experience with an understanding of how the various Supply Chain and production functions interact with one another
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Business or related field preferred and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
