Have you ever wondered how fresh produce makes it from farms all the way to your plate? Are you self-motivated? Here is a chance to join the team of one of the largest onion growers in the US as a summer intern. We are in search of a motivated college student to take over as an inventory control/shipping manager in one of our south Texas shipping locations. You will be working 6 days a week at an onion packing facility, receiving, inspecting, and shipping onions. In this role, you will be working very closely with a Production Manager, loading team and sales team to ensure timely, safe and efficient shipping of onions nationwide.
Requirements/Expectations:
• Start date May 8th - July 18th (depending on weather)
• Ability to work independently with little to no supervision.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Organizational skills and attention to detail.
• If you need time off work, you will need to notify your manager one week before. NO EXCEPTIONS.
• You must be available to work Monday-Saturday during all shipping hours.
• Proficient computer skills, and ability to quickly learn our sales/inventory management system.
• Must live in the Rio Grande Valley and must be on site every day
• Education: You must be currently enrolled in undergraduate coursework
What you will do:
• Perform receiving quality inspections, create reports based on these inspections and communicate these inspections with the production manager and sales team.
• Utilize a computer to scan in and out product as you receive and ship out product.
• Inspect old product for defects and quality issues.
• Regularly check inventory numbers and help loaders ship out the oldest product.
• Participate in daily meetings and complete tasks assigned to you by your supervisor or sales associates.
What’s in it for you?
We are offering a competitive hourly rate depending on experience. You will come away from this internship with experience in quality and inventory control of fresh packed onions, and exposure to working with a fast-paced team.
