Job Description

Under limited supervision, is responsible for supervising and training corporate security personnel engaged in a 24/7 life safety and security operation. Coordinates the workflow and scheduling for a 24/7 operation. Will have extensive contact with internal and external clients on a daily basis. Though supervising an unarmed security team, this individual will be armed and responsible for protecting associates and guests. The person in this role must possess, maintain proficiency, and exercise the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform basic law enforcement and security functions as well as directly supervise personnel assigned to his/her work group. The knowledge base and skills required for this position include, but are not limited to: an understanding of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations, including laws governing the apprehension, arrest, and custody of persons who are believed to have committed violations of the law; rules of evidence pertaining to search and seizure and preservation of evidence in traffic and criminal cases; techniques and applications of self-defense and proper use of force; use, operation, and maintenance of police equipment (including, for example, a police radio system), vehicles and tools (including a variety of firearms); department policies and procedures; and institutional policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Observes and reviews associate performance, identifies performance issues and implements remedial plans.
  • Involved in the interviewing and selection of security personnel.
  • Plans, assigns, monitors, reviews, evaluates and leads the work of others.
  • Coaches and mentors subordinates, identifies training needs and recommends development programs.
  • Reviews or creates various individual department reports for management.
  • Researches, analyzes and reports on security issues to management.
  • Assists with coordinating emergency evacuation drills for the Home Office.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Operate a variety of tools and equipment specific to armed security duties, to include a radio, baton, handcuffs, Taser, handgun, and other firearms and weapons as required.
  • Assist and cooperate with law enforcement and other security departments.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement security processes and procedures to meet the needs of the company.
  • Conducts security audits on a regular basis to ensure effective and efficient security operations.
  • Conduct internal security investigations as needed.
  • Gather, assemble, analyze, evaluate, and use facts and evidence.
  • Obtain information through observation, investigation, and the interviewing of victims, complainants, witnesses, and suspects.
  • Conduct a variety of criminal and special investigations and effectively document information into written form when necessary.
  • Utilize mental capacity allowing the capability of exercising sound judgment and rational thinking under dangerous and stressful conditions.
  • Interpret, apply, and make decisions in accordance with applicable federal, state and local policies, laws and regulations.
  • Think clearly and act quickly in a variety of situations.
  • Engage tactfully and courteously with the public and law enforcement personnel; demonstrate a high ability to interact with the public courteously, with patience and a positive attitude.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Concepts, principles and practices of safety, security and law enforcement.
  • Federal and State Agency-mandated safety related regulations, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Life Safety Code 101 (NFPA).
  • Investigative procedures, methods and techniques, including preserving crime scenes, identifying the elements of a crime, preserving evidence, and obtaining statements.

Skill in:

  • Problem solving; ability to analyze, research and resolve questions and/or problems in a timely manner.
  • Deescalating situations and individuals
  • Organizing and handling multiple tasks, prioritizing workloads and meeting deadlines.
  • Using a computer and electronic security system
  • Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook and Access) sufficient to create documents, spreadsheets, business correspondence and reports.
  • Ability to create and present effective presentations.
  • Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications.
  • Ability to maintain mental capacity which allows the capability to exercise sound judgment and rational thinking under dangerous circumstances, evaluate various options and alternatives and choose an appropriate and reasonable course of action, and demonstrate intellectual capabilities during training and testing processes.

  • Use firearms and other law enforcement/security equipment and vehicles; meet weapons qualifications for pistol, rifle, baton and other weapons as required; meet vehicle operations qualifications.
  • Carry out basic law enforcement functions such as investigating crimes, interacting with individuals, issuing citations, and managing crowds.
  • Investigate complaints, infractions, violations of department or corporate policies, procedures and standards.
  • Use sound judgment and independence in determining priorities.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

  • Associate Degree or equivalent with ten (10) years’ experience in law enforcement and/or military police or related security experience. At least one (1) year prior management experience required.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Class D Security License or ability to obtain within 120 days of hire.
  • Class G Security License or ability to obtain within a 120 days of hire.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications or ability to obtain within 120 days after hire.
