Student Support & Administrative Coordinator


The Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) program in the Office of the Provost at George Mason University seeks to hire an organized, energetic, self-motivated individual to work approximately 20 hours per week as Student Support & Administrative Coordinator.

About the Department:


George Mason University’s Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) is a unique program created specifically for students who have earned an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree and seek to complete their Bachelor’s degree, with a specialized technology-rich concentration. Designed with the adult-learner in mind, but open to students of all ages, the BAS degree offers a flexible learning experience for students.


About the Position:


The program, located in the Office of the Provost, seeks a Student Support & Administrative Coordinator who will support the Program Director.


Responsibilities:

Student Support:


Entry-level academic advising, to include communicating BAS degree requirements to current and prospective students, educating students about university deadlines, policies, and procedures, etc.;

Serve as the first point of contact for the office, including screening and routing emails;

Maintain advising materials;

Help students initiate academic actions (e.g., course substitutions, transfer credit inquiries, and evaluations);

Participate in virtual events (e.g., orientation, recruitment activities); and

Collaborate with BAS faculty and staff on program activities, events, and marketing materials.



Administrative :


Provide administrative support to Program Director;

Work with other university administrative offices to schedule courses and publication of course schedules with coordination of Program Director;

Assist with program assessment and data collection;

Manage production of department newsletter;

Send announcements and ad hoc emails to student listserv; and

Maintain and regularly update department website and all social media accounts.



Required Qualifications:


Excellent oral and written communication skills;

Previous experience providing administrative support;

Demonstrated interest in academic advising and student support;

Demonstrated interest in working with transfer students and contemporary students; and

Website design skills; experience using social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram).



Preferred Qualifications:


Previous experience working in higher education;

Previous experience advising college students;

General knowledge of curriculum at George Mason University; and

Experience with (or the ability to learn how to use) systems for academic advising (Banner, Degree Works, Navigate).
